The Royal Sands resort was a beautiful resort to stay and relax at for a trip with couples and friends. The rooms were very clean and the staff ALWAYS wore their masks. Though, guests usually had their mask off due to being in the pool or ocean.
Being vegetarian, food options are limited but it was nice that we had access to sister resorts and restaurants so we were able to try a variety of food. Though, being an all-inclusive resort, it wasn’t the most amazing food. It was nice that there was a pool bar.
For Americans, I’d suggest bringing single dollar or 5 dollar bills for tipping. You can also convert some money to pesos for excursions or souvenir shopping because vendors tend to round up the dollar value to the next whole dollar, if paying cash. Credit card is best option. Also the local bus service is VERY easy to use and only costs $1-2 per person (use pesos on bus).
The resort staff was truly dedicated to making sure guests enjoy their time at the resort. All staff were very kind and courteous. The service is amazing! Speaking to some of the staff members, they expressed that their work-life balance is pretty good compared to other resort workers they know, having 8-hour work days, etc.
Notes for travelers:
- make sure to confirm your shuttle back to the airport the day you arrive to the resort
- check out the daily schedule of activities (yoga, pool volleyball, salsa classes) and make sure to arrive early
- reserve restaurants early or day before
