Hôtel un peu vétuste, des problèmes de plomberie manifestes mais personnel plutôt serviable pour régler ces problèmes.. Ce fut un hôtel fastueux en son temps, un charme désuet. Le petit déjeuner n'a rien d'exceptionnel.

On booking out we were not asked if we enjoyed our stay as was the person following us. We had to pay for parking in the hotel carpark the receptionist did not advise us to go back in the lift to the first floor we asked another member of staff how we got onto the carpark. The room however was very spacious

Staff were very welcoming and attentive throughout our stay. The room was large and comfortable however the mattress was quite uncomfortable and the pillows weren’t the comfiest even after requesting an additional 2. Great breakfast and value as it was included in our room rate. Great location, easy to access town and local sights

I booked a single room for 2 nights and was allocated room 105. My first impressions of the hotel were quite good as it is a beautiful old building, however the room was not great. The window frame was rotten and a constant breeze blew through as the weather outside was foul, the net curtain was half the width of the window and the curtains were old and different lengths. The bed was OK and also the bathroom. Although there was a kettle, the tea bags, milk and sugar were not topped up, so not much use on the second day. Breakfast was very limited. No fresh fruit or yoghurts were available throughout my stay and limited pastries and cereal selection. So some things were OK, but plenty of room for improvement.

Der Haupteingang ist nur durch eine enge Drehtür zugänglich, die für Hunde und Koffer ungeeignet ist. Frühstück mit Hund ist nur in der Bar möglich, aber sehr lecker.

This is not a brand new hotel but a building with character. Great value for money, a good choice at breakfast, attentive staff. Clean, warm and hospitable and a convient location for before and after events at the pavilions.

One night stay. Positives: Room was a good size. Negatives: The 5ft mattress is on a 4ft6 base no idea why; The cold water tap did not work to start with, then produced hot water, after some time this became cold, about 4-5 minutes. Badly fitted curtains Windows dripping with water when curtains pulled The room I had been allocated faced the Pavilions, which also had 2-3foot external protruding walls either side, this caused a wind tunnel effect which almost drowned out the sound of the cars on the main road 5 floors down. Whilst I appreciate older buildings have their natural quirks, you heard other people walking around and I made every effort to pad as quietly around the room as possible. There are signs of covered up damp in the corner, this has been wall papered over. There is also a lack of useable plug sockets.

Bit dated in decor, room was small and basic. But for one night it was fine. Breakfast was over priced. Staff were lovely. If you just need a place to crash, or expecting a fancy hotel then it’s ideal.

January 24, one night at the Duke
We only planned to stay one night but given the age of the building and style it was quite impressive. Excellent front desk service. However, in some places it is showing its age and is in need of fresh painting. Some carpets are also antique. Parking at rear is adequate but condition of rear of hotel lets it down a bit. I dont like the 1st come first served parking, you should be able to book in advance especially comming from 3.5 hours away and no local knowledge.
