Bizarre is the only word I can use to describe our stay at the Boutique Hotel & Spa Tsarevets. The hotel offers free parking but the car park was full when we arrived at 5pm, not a problem being that it was a weekend and on street parking was free but it would have been a different story if we had stayed during the week. The hotel is conveniently situated close to the Tsarevets fortress which is well worth a visit and the room was clean and comfortable. The dinner in the hotel was an experience, one I hope not to repeat, I asked for the wine list and was told that they had white, red and rose, no wine list! I asked for the red and was eventually given a bottle of French 2019 Syrah and a corkscrew to open it with. After consuming what I would describe as a less than average red wine we asked for the bill and were charged 50 Bulgarian Levs, the same wine can be purchased in the Metro supermarket for 10.49 Bulgarian Levs. I think the nigh on 500% mark up was a rip off. The food provided was pretty dire, most of the menu was pork which we didn’t want, so we had a form of deep fried chicken. The service was pretty appallingly, not surprising considering the waitress doubled up as the receptionist and needed frequent smoke breaks. The spa is small and was very crowded, so we didn’t spend much time in it. I cannot recommend this hotel despite the comfortable and clean room provided.
