Southampton Park Hotel

Useful for overnight pre-cruise

The hotel is a bit worn and shabby, but okay if all you want is an overnight stay before cruising from Southampton. Our double room was tiny and cramped. The bed was comfortable. The view from our room was bricks and concrete and office windows. You can't open the windows properly and there are net curtains that you can't open, so you can't tell if it is raining outside until you go down to the lobby. Walking to the City Terminal would be possible. A taxi might cost you up to a tenner because they charge whilst stuck in the traffic queues trying to get to Ikea, which they built in a silly place.Walking to the places where there is food and drink is easily possible. Frankie and Benny's is not too far. This hotel has seen much better days.

Les points faibles : Infrastructures et conditions de l’hébergement et confort de la chambre

Quite disappointing stay.

The room, though clean, was overheated (no aircon), there were two permanently dripping taps and some tiles missing in the bathroom, and there was a great deal of noise from below (people endlessly shouting, loud music, etc.). The staff were pleasant and helpful, and the breakfast was very good, but I wouldn't stay at this hotel again, or recommend it to others. Needs a total overhaul of the bathroom at least.

Disappointing.

The hotel is nothing like it is in pictures. The hotel is dated and in need of updating. The shower had little water coming out and the drain was blocked.

Good old-fashioned service, convenient location

We had arrived at Gatwick and drove down to Southampton in the evening, feeling very tired when we arrived. The staff were very welcoming and pleasant, and we were pleased to find the room attractively and comfortably furnished in an old-fashioned sort of way. There is no on-site parking, but there is a municipal fee-paying carpark just behind the hotel. We had one breakfast and one dinner at the hotel, and enjoyed the food. We had two nights at this hotel and would definitely recommend it.

Central hotel, convenient for a night out in town.

A clean room, good size, good functioning bathroom, tea and coffee facilities. Exactly as described. I did not use the leisure facilities.

Shabby chic without the chic!

VERY tired looking hotel. Room smelt of damp. Threadbare carpets, ceiling wallpaper in room falling off and black from previous water leak, dirty door to balcony. All doors appear to slam shut and not damped, hence woken several times in the night. The staff were very helpful land friendly. No problem with booking through Expedia, I guess the price reflects the poor condition of the hotel but staying again at this hotel would absolutely be a last resort for me.

A bit dated

The hotel staff were lovely, but the hotel itself was very dated. Not only in the decoration but also the building itself. Everything is slightly off, with the bathroom door barely closing and needing a good push together it to even nearly close. The fire alarm went off at 5:30am which admittedly wasn't a fault of the hotel but from then on all I could hear was the floor boards creaking from the floors above. And I'm not talking a slight creek hear and there. it was very loud on literally every board which made it very hard to sleep. The best solution would be to strip this place bare and start over!

Renovated but still looks tired

Old fashioned hotel and although rooms have been renovated, not the freshness of a Premier Inn for example. Staff very friendly and helpful and evening dinner sensible prices and good choice.

Tired hotel in need of renovation

Old fashioned hotel, old fashioned decoration, furniture and facilities. In need of some tlc! No car park - use the municipal car park close by. About £10 per night.

Last minute booking

I had a meeting which ran over and had to find a hotel. The hotel had room and met all travellers expectations. Breakfast was a bonus.

Central, affordable, old-school

Old hotel that requires a certain amount of renovation. Great location, lobby shows lovely touches of a previous era. Swimming pool no longer available, as explained when we checked in. Service in bar/restaurant hopeless, although menu promoted in the guest rooms. Service at reception friendly and efficient. Room a surprisingly nice size, but very tired in appearance. New showers a boon. Radiators didn't work. Breakfast decent. Fine for an affordable, short stay on a business trip but not the kind of place for a romantic weekend.

Better Customer Service needed.

Single room bigger than usual. Sink in room, toilet + bath/shower in separate room. Did not use leisure facilities but looked ok. Pre-paid room when booking via Expedia but asked for room payment when booking in and out. Breakfast served on hot plate but food cold. Otherwise satisfied with hotel.

Very comfortable budget hotel, with pool and gym

When I attend rock concerts at the Southampton Guildhall, I always stay at the Southampton Park, which is located within an easy walk across the park. This is a budget 3 star hotel and it stands by what it is - a basic hotel, but with all the amenities necessary, so don't expect luxury. All I need is a comfortable bed, en suite bathroom and breakfast and that is exactly what I've got every time I've stayed here. The rooms are basic, no frills, but very comfortable. My single bed was really nice and soft. I stayed in a very quiet room on the 3rd floor at the very end of the corridor, so no noise at all. There are tea and coffee making facilities in all the rooms, hair dryer and the usual necessities like shower gel and shampoo. Breakfast is included, very good. The great bonus about this hotel is the fact that it has a swimming pool, gym and spa facilities which is a members-only gym, but guests in the hotel can use facilities for free (beauty treatments, tanning treatments and sunbed are obviously extra charges). I swim here everytime I stay and the pool is a good size. There are separate steam rooms and saunas in mens and women's changing rooms. The jacuzzi wasn't working and according to club members, it had been closed for several months. To add to that disappointment, there was a rumour going around that the new club manager wants to close to pool to save costs, which really annoyed me - PLEASE DON'T CLOSE THE SWIMMING POOL! the members need it, it's should stay as it is!

Ratings for Southampton Park Hotel

Very nice hotel, comes with a complementary breakfast that is very good. The only complaint I have is we were at the front of the hotel and it was noisy. It's on a fairly busy streeet.

Close to parks and shops, near many bus routes and train station. Breakfast was good but cold on the last day. Room was large, airy and spacious, but a bit shabby.
