Our go-to place in VaBeach

This was our second time to stay at the Oceanside during spring break. The off-season rates are very reasonable. Sadly, unlike last year, we got cold and windy weather during our 4-night stay this year so we didn't get to enjoy the outdoor deck. Still, a blizzard hit back home during the week, so it was better than that! And there is plenty to do in the VaBeach-Norfolk area -- museums, movies, live performances, malls, etc. The hotel is not fancy, and was undergoing renovations in the bar/dining area. which kept the lobby very cold during the day as workers came and went. Still, for the price, the hotel has many strengths: clean rooms, free parking right by the front entrance; excellent free coffee in the lobby; pretty good free wifi; an exceptionally responsive, friendly and helpful staff; location right on the beach; fridge, microwave, Keurig in the room; LOTS of TV channels (including 2 HBOs). The toilet leaked in the first room we were assigned and the attempt to fix it didn't work out so we were promptly moved to another room (and given free breakfast to compensate for the inconvenience). The Keurig died on the third day and was replaced. Again, I want to stress how friendly and helpful everyone was -- from the front desk, to the dining area, to the room attendants. We would happily stay here again, given the total package of room, amenities, location and staff. Look elsewhere if you want some kind of "upscale" experience, but this place is just fine for our needs.
