This is a warm and inviting home with lots of room in a safe, charming neighborhood. We visit Newport Beach regularly and we would like to rent it again -- but for the following reasons, we won't. First, what's missing is lamps. Each bedroom has only a single ceiling light operated by a battery-powered remote. Because there are no lamps anywhere in the home (no bedside reading lamps, no lamps in the living room), if a bedroom ceiling light is out, there is no way to light the bedroom. So, if you rent this place, bring headlamps. Second, when we arrived, it was after dark, and one of the bedroom's lights would not turn on. None of the remotes in the house would make it work. We called the owner, who told us to try to open up the remote and change the battery and if that didn't work, she'd see if maybe she could get someone to come out to the house. She was not apologetic and seemed put-out by the problem. The remote required a special kind of battery that none of the other devices in the house had (we looked), so we had to do some research to find a store that carried this battery. We then drove to Target, bought the battery, and installed it in the remote. This is how we spent the first couple of hours of our vacation in the home. We did what a property manager should do, not a renter. Twice we have emailed the owner (through this site), asking her to compensate us for the battery and our trouble. It has been over a month, and she has not replied. We're perplexed and disappointed by her lack of communication or hospitality.
