Mitten drin in South Beach

Beach day stay

Publié le 25 août 2015
We used the hotel room just for day hours to use beach.. The room was on the ground floor and was really small ! It served our purposes to use while at the beach for the day but would not stay here for any type of holiday. Very old rooms.

Location is great for the beach, however...

Publié le 24 août 2015
Room was freshly painted but obviously cheaply done. The room smelt of the last occupants body odour and we found ants all over the room in the morning. Staff wouldn't offer us any compensation apart from knocking off the resort fee of $19. Free breakfast was a croissant or bowl of cornflakes- not very impressive!

Photos are just photos photo-shopped

Publié le 11 août 2015
Les + : Location. They're very lucky for online business and photo editing otherwise even while sitting out front and observing, no one wanted to stop in.
Les - : The desperate need of reconstruction and major re-org and new good, descent, professional management.
Situation : beach access and better restaurants near by.
Only booked hotel for one night for proximity to beach for me and my baby. Arrived 6pm and asked to use the handicap-accessible lift at the side of the "hotel" to get to the lobby and check in. Waited in 100 degree heat for 10 minutes and asked how much longer, out front were 3 spanish boys and the manager (scrawny spanish fella, I think Andrew?) who went to check. Out came a bald dark skin manager and said "strollers are not for that purpose" and asked me what my disability was and I said that is against the law to ask besides rude. So basically they didn't attempt to accommodate us with getting into the hotel whatsoever. I sat crying out front calling expedia and my credit card company, that its getting late and now I don't have a hotel. As the 4 boys attempted to get business from pedestrians and drooled over every female passing by, it would've been hospitable to say sorry for any inconvenience, would you like a glass of ice water while you're waiting, but no, not this place. Stick to big chain hotels, sorry to say, but I never experienced such lack of customer service at larger well known hotels. This lack of hospitality, lack of common decency, which probably comes from the owner and "management" is unacceptable if a hotel. If no examples of professionalism are set then how do they learn. Very sad...Penguin did not refund expedia to refund me. 1st they said our policy for accessibility states we don't have to accommodate, then they said I never showed so no refund.

We will book this place again!

Publié le 22 juil. 2015
Les + : Location and atmosphere
Les - : Can't really think of anything.
Situation : It's close to central Ocean Drive, so it's in the middle of everything. We never needed our car. We walked everywhere we wanted to go!
We wanted to stay on the beach in South Beach, but we didn't want to pay the huge price. We found The Penguin for a fraction of the cost, and booked it through Expedia. When we got there, we were at first disappointed because it said "on the beach" but it was actually across the street on Ocean Dr. However, we ended up being completely happy and satisfied with our choice. The hotel was a quaint, boutique hotel with a 1950s feel. The staff was very helpful and friendly. It was directly across from a public bathroom and a short walk to the beach. It was in the middle of EVERYTHING and we loved it! The bartender suggested we go to Espanola Way and Lincoln Mall. That was a great recommendation. We would never have known about those places had he not told us! We will be back!

Fun, Hotel in Heart of So. Beach Historical Area

Publié le 20 juil. 2015
Les + : Oceanfront location, great hotel restaurant and bar, fairly quiet, historical charm, helpful staff
Les - : room was very clean but smelled strongly of bleach, small bathroom, wish it had a swimming pool
Situation : Beach right across the street, dozens of restaurants and shops within ten minute walk, good bar and restaurant right in the Penguin
We enjoyed our stay at the Penguin, where the beach is right across the street and dozens of restaurants and shops line Ocean Drive all around it.

Great location, super friendly staff, clean rooms.

Publié le 17 juil. 2015
This hotel is not luxurious by any means but it gets the job done. If you're looking for an affordable place to stay right near south beach within walking distant of all major attractions, this is it! The hotel was clean and the staff was really nice and helpful. Those two things are more important to me than other details and thus, I highly recommend this place for an affordable and casual stay in Miami especially if you plan on spending the majority of your vacation outside of your room (as you should when in SB!).

Dingy hotel, great location

Publié le 13 juil. 2015
Although it had been recently remodeled, tee pictures make the hotel look significantly nicer than it was. Nothing was outright dirty, room was clean, but it was dingy. A fresh coat of white paint would have helped. However, the location could not have been any better!

In a nice location

Publié le 3 juil. 2015
Les + : The location is very close to the beach, Collins St & Lincoln Mall
Les - : staff customer to be friendlier
Situation : shop at the lincoln mall, eat at nearby restaurants, swim at the beach, stroll at the park
This hotel is ok for the price we paid for. The restaurant staff could be more friendlier, otherwise the front desk staff and housekeeping staff are very friendly. The elevator need fixing particularly the smell when you're inside it.
