for the youth hostel crowd only
Let me start with the positives: 1) the hotel was the cheapest I could find in downtown Frankfurt at this time of the year; 2) its location near the train station is extremely convenient; 3) the staff tries to be helpful, and all seem to know English (I used German with them); and 4) it has FREE wireless that worked just great; 5) my room was small, but neat and very clean. Now the negatives: 1) the price was still way more than reasonable for a hostel with this degree of "service" and amenities; 2) it is located in the middle of a red-light district--just passing by the dregs of humanity out on the street every day as I left and approached the hotel was enough to ruin my stay; 3) due to its location, the noise level from the street at night is very high; 4) it seems to be in rather poor physical condition. One day the elevator was broken, the next a toilet overflowed and wetted the carpet in my room. The elevator is very strange and small; barely three people can fit; 5) they ask for a 20 euro deposit for your room key. This was extremely inconvenient to me, since I went directly to the airport from the hotel and was forced either to spend the 20 euros on stupid stuff at the airport, or take it home with me. (I don't recall seeing this condition in the hotels.com description; I was really taken aback.)
Some other "fun" features of this hotel: no television in the rooms; I don't recommend their breakfast at 3.50 euros--the bread was stale and you had to make your own instant coffee; there is no linen change service. I used the same towel for five days and made my own bed every night.
