The townhouse is in disrepair and did not have the promised amenities. The handrail in the stairwell fell off the wall when the first person--my 70-year-old sister--tried to go up the stairs. This meant that she and my 74-year-old brother-in-law were in danger of falling on the narrow steps the whole stay because this was the staircase that was from the first to the second floor. On the first day, my daughter cut her third finger on the door to the first-floor bedroom. Every person who opened the door of this bedroom felt the sharp jagged edge of the broken door knob because the jagged edge is underneath the knob and is not visible when you are simply trying to open the door. Although I was warned about it, I cut my finger on the same doorknob the next day. OF COURSE, the house had no alcohol or band aids available, and I spent over an hour on the phone with VRBO to try to reach the absent host.They promised towels, but there were no washcloths to bathe with or hand towels or even paper towels in the bathrooms to dry our hands. The living room had wo burned out bulbs in the fixture. The front yard hadn't had the grass cut before winter, so it looked like an abandoned home. We were panicked on the day of the rental because VRBO could not contact the host with the door access information, and VRBO told us to begin looking for a replacement stay for our family--on New Year's Eve!! We looked frantically. Then the access code came 3 1/2 hours before the stay began.
