Wintery night retreat.

Les + : The owner's thoughtfulness and culinary skills. Breakfast well worth it recent award. Fresh fish from the local quay, and home-made bread and jams.
Les - : Nothing at all.
Situation : Three differing beaches within minutes of walking. Surrounded by wonderful cafes and bars. Fishing, sailing and ship watching on the door step.
Returning a staying here in the Spring, it was wonderful to arrive during a snow storm and step into a warm and welcoming guest house. Treated as an old friend,(this time I was alone) I felt so at home and cosy. Everything at the Martineau Guest House makes one feel so special, from the home-made selection of biscuits in the room, to a bath robe which one would not normally expect in a tiny b & b.

Sally est adorable. Son accueil très chaleureux et, c'est surtout un fin cordon bleu ! Son petit-déjeuner avec des produits frais et travaillés maison est absolument délicieux ! L'emplacement est idéal. Chambre confortable et propre.

Found this by "accident". Tynemouth is a gem of an area and Front Street is full of excellent and quirky bars and restaurants. The hosts are fantastic, giving excellent service culminating in a fab breakfast.

Les + : The breakfasts were amazing - choice and quality superb. We were really well looked after by Phil, a lovely man who helped to make our holiday so fab.
Les - : Nothing - it was perfect.
Situation : Tynemouth is stunning. Lovely bars and eateries next to the B and B. Nice walks around. Excellent metro to get into Gateshead and newcastle.
This is a wonderful B and B and I would thoroughly recommend it. Tynemouth is a beautiful place and the Martineau is a fabulous place with a brilliant location. It is 2 minutes from the sea ( we had a sea view in the Collingwood room) and next to bars and eateries. Not at all noisy though, it is a haven! The house is beautiful - a listed building and really tastefully decorated. The room itself was lovely, bed was very comfy and it was again beautifully decorated. Really good tea and coffee facilities even with home made biscuits! Lovely touches like that and the way we were looked after by Phil, made our holiday perfect!

Les + : great location and fantastic views
Les - : general upkeep , could do with some TLC
Situation : recommend "How do you do" in Whitley Bay, fantastic food.
Spent a couple of nights here. Room was pleasant however the shower almost fell apart and the toilet seat fell off. One side of the room slopes which meant I banged my head a few time when getting out of bed. On a positive note the breakfast was fantastic.
