Big room, construction, nice staff, little English

Publié le 14 janv. 2014
Les + : location, you decide if the location and price outweigh the construction and less than 4 star hotel
Les - : Wait till construction is finished, better lobby,
Situation : Easy to find places to eat. Saturday and Sunday market with local goods close by. Bus and Vans close as well as beach.
Room was large but very outdated. We must have been in a room yet to be renovated. No pool on roof like we thought. Construction on multiple floors. If you are going to sleep during the day forget it. Towels were old and thin, The internet cost by the minute but was available in the lobby which was very small. Morning breakfast was actually very good with eggs and a meat plus pastries, fruit, yogurt, cereal, coffee and juice. If you hit the peak times it was hard to get a seat. The people were very nice but was very difficult to communicate if you did not speak Portuguese. They spoke enough English to get you a cab to get to the airport. Excellent location. Right across the street from the Copacabana Beach. Vans going to Christ the Redeemer was less than 1 block and we caught a city bus to get to Sugar Loaf which was only a few blocks away to catch. You have to know bus numbers (511 to get there, 512 to get back) and need to waive them down to stop or they just drive by.

The location was great. The breakfast was good. The repairs going on made it hard to truly enjoy my stay.

Really bad hotel

Publié le 19 nov. 2013 sur Hotels.com
Hotel is under construction and was surprised to see how can they be renting rooms at the same time. Construction noise wakes you up in the morning. Luckily we had booked it for one night only and moved to a lot better hotel the next day. Only good thing was location, but better to stay 2 blocks away in god hotel.

Building site on the beach

Perfect location however renovations were occurring at the time which woke us up every morning and made the place untidy. Phone and tv didn't work and our room was only cleaned at 9pm after multiple requests.

Your Expectations Make the Difference

Publié le 31 oct. 2013 sur Hotels.com
Listen, I'm an American who has stayed in Rio many times. I have also lived in Brazil for quite some time, and I understand Brazilian infrastructure and norms. Hotel Atlantico Praia is a perfectly acceptable (perhaps even better than acceptable) hotel when compared to this rubric. I've stayed here several times-- the building is old, it's constantly under some unending renovation, and no one (particularly Americans) are going to enter the hotel and be impressed by the structure, furniture, or overall quality. HOWEVER-- please note: the location of this hotel is FLAWLESS. The staff is kind and attentive, if not terribly friendly. Bilingual staff. Breakfast is better than adequate, and it's one of the few Brazilian breakfasts that consistently offers eggs, bacon, etc. The views of Copacabana beach are lovely. The rooms are spacious with lovely floors, and the showers are powerful and hot. Cleanliness of the rooms is not a concern, and the beds/pillows are more comfortable than most. Don't pass on this hotel, unless you can't adjust your own pompous expectations to the reality of your locale. This hotel is better than serviceable for our needs, the location is as good as any, and (despite horrible overpricing in all Copacabana hotels), this one gets the job done for less than its competitors. Plus, the low average review scores scare off many people, so you can get reservations here at the last minute. Just temper your expectations, and you'll enjoy this hotel.

Not bad

Publié le 5 sept. 2013 sur Hotels.com
Good price, decent breakfast, good location although Copacabana is a bit dodgy at night. Some parts of the hotel are rather run-down. If you are lucky you will get a newly refurbished room. Be smart and ask in advance to have a room on the SL floor which is new and way better than the rest of the very basic rooms of the upper floors. The downside is that this SL floor can be very noisy in the morning during the week days because they still haven't completely refurbished it. The staff is very nice and helpful if approached with kindness. The general feeling is good....although it looks nothing like a hotel....more like a hostel i would say.
