Great relaxation in Jamaica

Publié le 20 févr. 2014
Les + : Ocean view and friedly staff
Les - : Water could be hotter, dont like taking cold showers.
Situation : Five or six miles from downtown, Location give you peace and quiet.
Truly good time for all, as I escaped snow in the Washington DC area for a warmer climate in sunny Negril. Considering the beauty of Negril, its kind of hard to go wrong. The Westlander is on the side by the Cliffs, not the beach, so to get to the beach you will have to take a shuttle. Its impossible to walk anywhere from the Westlander, so be prepared to either pay $3.50 a trip for a Westlander shuttle or pay a lot more for longer rides to the rum factory or the National park. The Westlander shuttle is ideal for quick trips to Times Square and downtown restaurants. MAKE SURE YOU KNOW THE WESTLANDER SIDE YOU WILL BE STAYING ON. I think they have a total of about 15 rooms but if your not on the ocean side, there is not much to see. I as many others requested to be moved to the ocean side. It makes a world of difference to wake up to the sounds, and sights of the ocean. The food was good particularly the breakfast, but venturing out is suggested. Found a place called the Bourbon Beach which sold jerk wings im still thining about. Good room service, everyone is trained to say, no worries mon, just relax man. They set up trips for snorkeling, scub diving etc..... So you have to pay, but its all there. The funniest thing is all the old pot heads. Yep, our neighbors, lawyers and bank managers go to Jamaica to smoke buddha ses. So dont be suprised. Other than that, have fun.

Great out -of -the-way location

Publié le 12 févr. 2014
Les + : The rooms were nice and big. Loved all the balconies. The pool was clean and well kept, and the grounds were well groomed. Best thing... no kids!
Les - : The prices in the restaurant were a bit on the high side. I think 40 US dollars is a little much for breakfast for two
Situation : no trip to Negril is complete without a stop at Rick's café. Very convenient to get to. If you want sandy beach, it's just a couple miles down the roa
The hotel is in a remote location... perfect for a long weekend getaway. Didn't want any hustle and bustle. The inn was charming and very low key. Exactly what we were looking for.

Great place, well deserving of its high ratings

Great staff , many with international experience. Spent a super relaxing week there during peak Dec time and it still did not feel crowded. Great place to catch up on a book or just laze around. If you want to be on the beach all day, you should look at something on 7-mile instead.

Quiet compound on the West End cliffs.

This spot is secluded and beautiful. The staff is excellent and the food was great from my morning coffee to the fried chicken. I made 2 exclusions to the beach and ate dinner out a few times. I would go back in a heart beat.

Liked it but did not love It

Les + : The beautiful setting and fantastic staff.
Les - : The restaurant food/wine selection and ambiance. Access to wi-fi.
Situation : We enjoyed walking in the hills every morning. If you wanted to go anywhere else, you needed transportation.
We decided to try the Westender for our first trip to Jamaica because of the combination of reasonable price and glowing reviews. We had a mixed experience. First, the positives: As many others have said, the staff is fantastic!! They are incredibly friendly and will do anything for you. They put on a fun bonfire/buffet one of the nights we were there. The bed was extremely comfortable and the housekeeping staff kept the room very clean. We had a little porch with comfortable chairs and a comfy hammock. The food at the restaurant was outstanding. The cliffside setting is stunning The hotel is way off the beaten path, so you have a secluded and quiet retreat. The van did an hourly run to the beach, etc. so they made it convenient if you wanted to go somewhere. The grounds were very pretty, with pathways and flowers all around. Next, the cons: The open-air restaurant is across the street from the rest of the complex, set right next to a parking lot. We were swarmed by mosquitoes the first night, so felt we needed to wear bug spray whenever we went there for a meal. We were also disappointed that the restaurant did not have many items that were listed on the menu. There was no wi-fi the whole time we were there; in the end, we had to move to another hotel because I needed to be connected to my business.

Good value Pretty place

Les + : Location, quiet and secure
Les - : Restaurant - good waitstaff, unreliable chefs.
Situation : Beautiful, pretty. Spa next door, plenty of options for swimming.
Good value hotel. We stayed in room 4. People (other guests) kept walking in front of our room when there was no need for them too. We were in between rooms with smokers either side - we don't smoke or use aircon so this was not pleasant. Don't bother about going to restaurant - chef is unreliable - tea and coffe served lukewarm. Other than these complaints I will go back to the westender inn again but I will stay in the room on the far eastern side of the establishment so we don't encounter sticky beaks and smokers.

Awesome hotel!!

Publié le 8 janv. 2013 sur Hotels.com
My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights and it was amazing. They let us check in early, gave us a complimentary upgrade to a nicer room, and were extremely nice and helpful throughout our entire stay, which really made our trip. The hotel is gorgeous and has a perfect location on the cliffs, so it has great sunsets, snorkeling (lots of coral and fishes!), swimming, and lounge chairs to lay out beside the water and cliffs. It was paradise. The restaurant was awesome--especially breakfast (french toast and omelettes) and the banana-papaya-rum smoothies. They gave us a great deal on a rental car and we took a day to explore the inner island. They also have a shuttle every hour that goes into town and back, and the driver was really helpful when we were looking for a roadmap--he actually went to the book store and bought it for us since we couldn't find one. I can't wait to go back! PS- Being our first time in Negril and we were surprised at how touristy it was--7 Mile Beach was extremely unpleasant, worse than Daytona. The Westender is perfect to get away from that scene have a more authentic Jamaican experience. They had a bonfire and a party for New Year's Eve, so it's still fun, but not a tourist trap (e.g. Rick's), and was very relaxing. It's much better than an all-inclusive resort because you have more freedom/motivation to get out and see other part of the island.
