Renovated!!! Really?

Close from a freeway, which make an easy acces to the city by car, but noisy. There is a free parking but not big enough. Not really a nice view to the lake if that is what you are looking for. The rooms smell funny and look like motor inn rooms. The tv wasnt working very well. The decoration of the room are from the 70's maybe older. But its way cheaper than most hotels in chicago... so if the comfort is not your thing, this hotel is for you.

Mediocre hotel in transition

When it was the Ramada, this hotel was the only option in Hyde Park - not great, but acceptable. We have stayed there several times. Now in transition to a La Quinta, the hotel is basically a noisy construction site. The room, while beyond enormous, was truly bizarre: the carpets were stained, moldy and smelly; the television was at least 50 feet from the bed (and not much closer to a chair or couch); there was no desk; and construction crews were tromping directly outside the windows, which looked out onto a vast, flat roof, before 8 a.m. on a holiday. The elevator doors were covered with flapping construction tape that briefly glued them shut. The desk clerks were unable to check us in even at 4 p.m. I assume things will be nicer when the makeover is finally complete, but the site should have at least warned visitors of the difficulties.

Firstly it's a motel not hotel. There were cockroaches in the bathtub and hair all over. Super sketch and also difficult to find. I cancelled and paid $80 for a 4 hour sleep at the clarion by the midway airport. Do not stay here, it's not worth the $40 you'll save

Close to Lake Michigan and University of Chicago

Second stay at hotel. Convenient to UChicago and Metra line. View of Lake Michigan. Free shuttle to university and downtown Chicago. Helpful staff. A little run down but clean. There was a small gap between the top of the door and door frame. Otherwise, everything was in good condition. Enjoyed BBQ ribs and football game broadcast in hotel lounge/restaurant. Plenty of free parking. Safe area.

Nice inexpensive hotel next to Lake Michigan

Hotel is aged and under renovation, but my wife and I had a comfortable 2 day visit while I attended a conference at McCormick Place. Bridge over Lake Shore Drive provides access to walk/bike trail along the lake. Near park and close to restaurant next door and others on 53rd Street and nearby. Located in middle/professional class neighborhood with high rise apartment buildings which overlook the lake. Walking distance to bus and train lines, but I took a taxi to McCormick Place (about $10 + tip).

The good things are 1) shuttle to downtown and the university 2) free parking 3) good neighborhood.

Needs work

Situation : Was close to the train and highways so easy to go places
When I arrived I was told that the hotel had been taken over by a new company and they were carrying out renovations. When I went into my room I did not have to use the card to swipe the outside door so anybody could have walked into the hallway. Whenever the outside door was opened my room door rattled. I tried to use the phone to make a local call but it would not work, I called the front desk twice and was told they would take care of it but still would not work. I tried to use the TV remote to change channels but could only get about 1/2 of them to work. When I woke up and went to have a shower found that I was sharing the bathroom with 3 small spiders as well.
