Nice hotel, staff and restaurant needs some work

Publié le 7 mai 2015
Les + : Comfy bed, beautiful gardens, quiet
Les - : Front desk staff, concierge, restaurant (menu, food, pricing)
We stayed at Magic Mountain for 2 days of our trip to the Lake Arenal area. Great location - near La Fortuna for dining and shops and close to the hot springs resorts, short drive to park entrance and the lake. Safe, clean, quiet area. Hotel check-in was a huge disappointment. I book a room for 2 adults and 1 child on Expedia - pre-paid. Upon check-in, I was told I had paid for only 2 guests and that I would need to pay for the 3rd upon check-out, and she could only tell me it would "be around $20-$30". I showed her my Expedia email confirmation later on showing I had paid and she tried to argue with me that Expedia didn't charge enough - not my problem. The other issue was with the concierge guy. He constantly tried to sell us tours. Not only were they over-priced, but they didn't even offer a lot of what is available - only the tours they get kick-backs for. Book them online yourself or go to one of the MANY independent tour kiosks available. The room itself was comfortable. Great beds, comfortable pillows, cold AC. We had to ask for enough towels for 3 people and we had to kill a roach. Otherwise, no complaints about the room. Breakfast was included and was so-so. We didn't dine at the restaurant because of the very limited and expensive menu options. I'd recommend staying here, but make sure you have your confirmation and DON'T book tours here.

Only stayed here briefly, overnight to sleep, but the staff was very friendly and helpful and the room was comfortable. The pool and patio looked inviting but we were off for other adventures early in the morning. The buffet breakfast was good. Location in La Fortuna was also good.

Great Hotel Nest to the Arenal Volcano

Publié le 8 avr. 2015
Les + : Everything....
Les - : Nothing noted
Situation : Very centrally located. Reason we picked it.
All aspects of this Hotel were above average. Probably the closest hotel to the Arenal Volcano. Staff were all great with no issues. We had the complimentary Breakfast Buffet which was excellent and as about as close as you can get to an U.S. style food with Costa Rican flair. Swim up bar was very nice. We were very pleased with everything.

FABULOUS place to stay!

Publié le 22 mars 2015
Les + : Clean and quiet rooms, helpful personnel, nice view of Arenal Volcano even though cloudy that day.
Les - : Hotter Jacuzzi's in the evening.
Situation : Fabulous Italian restaurant Vagabond next door (great pizza), some good gift shops and was very easy to locate when arriving in La Fortuna.
We did a last minute trip to this area and found this FABULOUS place to stay. The hotel's pool also has a kids area along with the wet bar...it has 2 wonderful Jacuzzis that we really enjoyed. I had a massage that evening by Ibellene (sorry if spelt wrong) and she was marvelous. Wish I lived there to receive more of her wonderful touch. Best of all was the front desk personnel, Kendall and Dianna, Jose' and the maintenance man, didn't catch his name though. He helped me search for my earring that I had left in the Spa the night before - he opened the Spa so I could look around and when not there he took me to the laundry area where we were able to locate my earring in my robe...Yahoo!!! Thank you again for such a wonderful stay!

Hard pillows/cheap tissue

Publié le 1 déc. 2014 sur Hotels.com
Everything was just fine. Two things to note* The pillows were flat and extremely hard. And they use one ply toilet paper. Sort of makes you feel you're in a service station washroom not a 4 star hotel.

Clean, comfortable and beautiful grounds

Publié le 30 nov. 2014 sur Hotels.com
The staff is friendly and accommodating. Guests are offered a glass of fresh juice upon check in. The young lady at the desk reviewed all the amenities and policies in perfect English. I asked to book a tour to the Arenal hanging bridge and when she learned that all the major companies were booked she called a local taxi and the park to ensure that I would be able to have a guide - well worth the extra money. Trained guides know the tree species where the animals reside. I would have missed all wildlife on my own. The hotel was comfortable and clean. Each room has a nice balcony with chairs and a small table with a direct view of the Arenal volcano, perfect for enjoying morning coffee. The rooms have newer, quality mattresses, a coffee pot, hair dryer, TV, A/C and a safe. The bath towels need to be replaced soon. The restaurant is nice and serves either a breakfast buffet or menu options depending on the number of guests. The food was good and the service was excellent. The hotel has a zero depth entry pool, a swim-up bar and two hot tubs. The grounds are impeccably maintained and beautiful! Overall, I would compare this to a moderate, 3 or 4 star hotel in America with 5-star service. The location is near town, about a $3 cab far or an easy 2 km walk, yet far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. One more thing - they do offer secure WiFi, that worked well with the exception of a heavy storm when the power was out for about 10 minutes.
