I am sorry that your stay was not what you had anticipated however I should point out that no evening meal was booked with me either through Expedia or by email. The only contact with melfort house was through this Expedia portal.

Perfect haven in a storm
Why is it every time we visit Oban, there's a violent storm? We'd booked for two nights but on our day of travel Mathew phoned to advise all the roads were either flooded or blocked with landslips. We agreed to try travelling the following day, which we did - it was eventful and with many detours but got there. Mathew kept in touch throughout to check our progress too, giving us updates on road closures. When we arrived, we were greeted at the door and shown our room, which was huge and very well appointed. We asked for dinner each night and I must say, the food was of the highest standard ( and I've been to a lot of top tier hotels in my day). Mathew had also arranged at my request for prosecco, flowers and chocolates to be in our room to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Dinner was preceded with a complimentary glass of sherry and coffee was in the comfortable and well furnished drawing room. We sat at the large dining table with other guests for both dinner and breakfast, so it was great that we got to meet new people throughout our stay, all of whom were lovely and also intrepid travelers. All in all, Melfort House is a top notch hotel / B&B and definitely a cut above the rest, with fantastic hospitality, awesome food and yet quiet enough to relax in traditional comfort. Thank you !

Melfort House- A Hidden Gem
Excellent location situated in a lovely tranquil setting. Unable to fault experience in any way. The proprietor was friendly, welcoming and attentive. The dinner he prepared was exquisite. A memorable stay and we would certainly visit again.

The B&B lies at the end of the road and has limited mobile phone and internet - but that is not problem for a one night stop. Dinner and breakfast were excellent.

Absolutley charming
Absolutely recommendable. This storytelling old estate is glamorous and cosy in one go. The owner kept it in very good shape and generously shares it as a b&b. We had a wonderful stay and special thanks to the houskeeper Lesslie, which made our stay even better.

Lovely B&B in a quiet village. The owner was away during our stay so we were served by his friend who was great. There are only 3 rooms which are quite large with all amenities provided and the ensuite bathrooms are modern. Note that the room doors are not lockable although this was not an issue for us. Only areas for improvement might be that the wifi signal in the rooms was quite poor, however guests also have use of the large drawing room on the ground floor, where the wifi signal is good. The room rates are fixed here, and as we booked quite late the other options were dinky hotels in Oban for only a few pounds less so it was a no-brainer to stay here instead. The road to Oban is mostly recently repaved and relatively wide so it is a fast and smooth drive.

Matthew è un ottimo padrone di casa, ci ha preparato una colazione tipica scozzese servita in una splendida sala. La tenuta è molto bella e se prenotate la stanza con vista oceano avrete un panorama che vale il viaggio.

A beautiful location with good venues and hiking. My wife enjoyed a beautiful 6 mi walk while I visited gardens nearby due to a bad ankle. Matthew has a wonderful and interesting house and helped with some extra needs for scheduling a harbor trip and laundry due to a spill. We enjoyed our time in this quiet and peaceful home.

A wonderful manor with a friendly host. You will feel like a Lord for a day as you enjoy the dinning room breakfast or rest from the days activities in the spacious historical lounge in front of the roaring fire. Some hotels give water in the room but here we were more than happy to see a small whisky decanter as a welcome drink. A nice touch indeed! We would be more than happy to visit again should we be in the area.

Fabulous Matthew is wonderful made us feel at home no pretensions very relaxed and helpful. The room was awesome beautiful views and so comfortable. Food was delicious wholesome cooked to perfection. We would return any time when in the area.

Heerlijk adres in the middle of nowhere.
Een heerlijk ruime kamer in een mooi huis. Zeer schoon, prettige ontspannen sfeer. Ook gegeten 's avonds. Erg goed! Uitstekend ontbijt. De eigenaar deed alles om de gasten n ontspannen verblijf te bezorgen. Prachtige omgeving. Oban op een half uurtje met de auto.

Our vacation within a vacation
We spent four days at Melfort House and were sad to leave. This is a beautiful, comfortable estate house with a magnificent setting on a sea loch. Our room was spacious and the setting utterly peaceful. Host Mathew is a superb chef: We enjoyed one of his four-course dinners as well as a delicious breakfast everyday. We enjoyed the other guest but felt we also had privacy. This place is a gem!

A most pleasant, charming and clean property in a very nice location; it was particularly good to be invited to have an evening meal despite not having booked one, saving the potential difficulty of a search to eat elsewhere in an era of restrictions where many hotels were only feeding their own residents. I would be very happy to stay there again in the future.

Outstandingly good!
My wife and I stayed for three nights. It was really excellent: very large room, very comfortable large bed, clean and excellent large bathroom; and a large lounge with lovely views for the guests to use. The breakfasts were also excellent, and the host can offer dinner given advance notice. We had one of his four-course dinners: very good, and we were pleased that each serving was not the customary oversize portions that other places so often want to serve. Note that the host chooses the menu, although you can let him know about any dietary restrictions you may have. And yes, there is wifi available free. My wife and I have stayed in various places in the Melfort area, over many years. This is the best!

Fabulous stay
An excellent host. Very serene and peaceful place. We arrived late and hadn’t prebooked dinner however Mathew was kind enough to offer 3 course meal - spare rib, Salmon and Rhubarb, ginger and vanilla plus to finish a French press fresh coffee. Breakfast was nice. Decor of the place, crockery and cutlery are highly selective. Mathew was helpful to guide us what to see around.

Overall our stay at Melfort House was fantastic. What a lovely, clean, appointed country house this is. The owner went out his way to make us feel at home and was able to give us some dinner on our arrival owing to other places all being closed due to Covid-19. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent. The only slight negative was the wi-fi reception and tv in our room, but I guess in normal times we would not have spent as much time there!

Wonderful welcome at this hotel
We only stayed two nights but wished we could stay more. Our bedroom was huge and very well appointed. The host, Mathew, could not do enough for us. It certainly felt like being at the home of a friend. The many gardens were well maintained with a wonderful display of flowers. We even saw a deer sleeping in the corner of one section of the many gardens.
