This bridge is the outstanding landmark on Teesside. Constructed in 1911, it has a span of 180m across the river Tees and carries vehicles and pedestrians across the river in the suspended gondola (yellow in this photograph). It is the longest operational bridge of its type in the world. Since this photograph was taken the bridge has had a glass lift / elevator installed so that it is possible to visit the superstructure 49m above road level. I have yet to do this!
