Checked in at Extended Stay America Hotel located at 401 E. Santa Clara St., Arcadia, CA 91006 on 1/24/2026. Hotel stay was uneventful until 1/27 when hotel staff refused allowing me enter the room in the evening of 1/27/2026, claiming "room damage". The reason for the "room damage" was open window. Window was open in a normal way as intended. It can be opened and closed, in a normal regular way. Window was not locked nor fixed in place. There is no damage and was no damage. Nevertheless I was not let back in the room. Hotel staff refused return of my personal property which remained in the room. I demanded to see the manager. Manager was not at work. Hotel staff reluctantly agreed to return my personal property after telephone conversation with property manager. Hotel staff refused making new booking for a different room. I made new online reservation at ESA site at the same property for 1/27 through 1/28/2026. Front desk attendant still refused letting me in the room and cancelled my new reservation instead against my wish.
A strange experience to say the least. I stayed at ESA properties many times. Experience was always positive. Hotel staff was always polite and helpful. What is going on at this property?
