The main house boasts an expansive layout with 4 bedrooms and 4.5 baths, while the studio apartment is equipped with all the necessities for a comfortable stay.

Inside the main house, you'll discover the essence of rustic elegance with four stone fireplaces that create cozy gathering spots. The gourmet chef's kitchen, complete with a six-burner gas range, is a culinary haven for those who love to cook. The main level features a master suite with a stone fireplace, ensuring evenings of warmth and comfort. The upper-level bedroom suite offers an airy loft that overlooks the living area, adding to the open and inviting atmosphere. On the lower level, a family room with yet another fireplace, a bunk room, and a master bedroom suite provide ample space for relaxation. For families, the property has a bunk room that comfortably accommodates six children (with a weight limit of 95 pounds). A wifi-free kids' lounge brims with entertainment options, including ping pong, foosball, mini pool, cornhole, magnetic darts, and board games. Smaller thrill-seekers can also enjoy a zip line adventure.

The accommodations are versatile, featuring three owner's suites with king-size beds, a bunk room, a loft with a day bed, and the studio apartment with a king bed. The main house comfortably houses up to 6 adults and 6 kids (without using the day bed), while the garage apartment accommodates 3 guests. The daily rental rate covers up to eight adults and six children, with options for additional guests at an extra charge (billed separately).

The studio garage apartment is a haven of serenity, boasting a private entrance, dedicated parking, and a secluded deck enveloped by trees. A recent renovation completed in March 2021 has elevated the space with upgrades including a king-size bed, new kitchen cabinets, appliances, countertops, fresh interior paint, new flooring, and a remodeled bathroom.

Located between the charming towns of Highlands and Cashiers in North Carolina, this retreat offers convenient access to the best of both worlds. The video shown on the Photos page is from the previous owner. We have renovated the kitchen and turned the office with the jacuzzi into a master suite, putting the jacuzzi outdoors. We also have completely different furnishing.

Pets:
We are glad that we offer a home where you can bring your pets along. However, in the year we’ve been renting, we have had numerous problems. Therefore we have the following policies:
Pets are not allowed on the beds or furniture.
Clean up after your pet if they go in the yard, there is a poop scooper usually on the deck.
We have a roll of green temporary fence on the corner of the front deck. If you like, this can be used to keep your pets on the deck. It attaches using the hooks on the rail and the house.
We also have two child gates inside if you would like to keep your pet on the main floor where there is no carpet.
It is imperative that you keep your dog(s) on a leash when outside. There are several (really nice) older people in our neighborhood who frequently walk their dogs without leashes, as well as guests in the main house with dogs sometimes.
If your pet goes to the bathroom on the carpet, clean it up or we will charge for professional cleaning.
Failure to follow these rules will result in a minimum $500 additional cleaning fee.

We enjoyed our visit to Highlands, but the property fell short of expectations. For the price, the home felt outdated and in need of renovation. Much of the furniture was worn, uncomfortable, and appeared decades old. Several rooms had noticeable odors, particularly the basement, which smelled musty. A failed GFI outlet left half the kitchen without power, and discussions with the owner made it evident that there are known electrical issues that need to be addressed. While the location and layout of the house suited our group, we’ll be exploring other options for future stays.

This property was perfect for our family. It is rare to find more than one king-sized bed in a Highland rental, and this one had 3 in the main house and one in the apartment. Since we had four couples plus kids, that was perfect. There was also plenty of dining space for our group of 13. The kitchen and house were equipped with everything we needed, and the younger kids enjoyed the downstairs den. We had a great time making S’mores in the outdoor fireplace! Unfortunately, it rained most of the weekend, so we could not enjoy the outdoor amenities, but we loved the quiet location, which was particularly nice since the house was only 10-15 minutes to Highlands. I would rent this property again.

We had such a great time staying at this property. We had four families with lots of kids. The large table on the deck was perfect for large meals. The rooms were all lovely and the bunk room was perfect for the kids.

Our family of ten had so much fun in Highlands . The house is fantastic. We loved all the rustic mountain details . Nestled in the treason all the greenery it was just magical. All the rooms were comfortable. Everything was clean. I highly recommend it.

My family of 10 had a wonderful stay in this mountain home in the Highlands. The host welcomed us with a bottle of wine and answered any questions within minutes. He also provided a list of activities and places to eat before our arrival. We enjoyed hiking the mountain trails which were all about 10 minutes away, eating in the local eateries, & participating in the local events. We were all very comfortable with our own rooms and baths. That was beautiful and clean. The host also provided board games for my children and adults that was well suited for all with large TV, couch and checker board table. There is also an additional game room with air hockey, ping pong and other activities we enjoyed. The adults could also gather inside on the main floor living room. We used the large outside deck to relax around the fireplace & to eat at the large dining table. We also were able to enjoy our own private decks that overlooked the mountains where we could hear the creek below. The host also provided a clear and easy instruction for check out. This was definitely a great home to stay for our family. It was easy, absolutely beautiful, most definitely relaxing and very private. We all left better than when we arrived.

Beautiful home with plenty of room for our whole family. Tons of great porches surrounding the house with amazing views. Home was very clean with nice large bathrooms, closets and all the beds were very comfortable, which is often hard to find in rentals. The beautiful kitchen was very well stocked with everything I needed to prepare a brunch for my son’s wedding day. The extra bedroom apartment area above the garage was absolutely perfect for our friends to stay in with us, yet allowing them to still have their own private space. This home is in a nice quiet private location, yet very close to town and the extra directions to the home that are provided were very helpful! We will definitely be returning to this amazing home next time we are in the area:)) Thank you for allowing us to stay in your beautiful home and for making everything so simple to check in and out!

Well maintained. Enough firewood for 5 years. The only negative I have is their was clutter that should be hauled off organized or repaired. Game room was junky. Foos ball table was unplayable with men facing in wrong direction. Good response from owner - Had amazon drop off 5 dozen ping pong balls and a box of foos balls.

Beautiful spacious Highlands mountain home

This was a family get together for our 40th anniversary back in May. It was my wife and me, our four adult sons, two daughters-in-law, and seven grandkids from 7 months to 8 years old. We are from Gainesville, Jacksonville, Niceville, and Pensacola, Florida. Everything was wonderful. The kids loved the game room and zip line. We did many hikes to our favorite waterfalls and some new ones for us. The Highland fireworks were great. The house is beautifully decorated. The bedrooms are very comfortable and spacious. The 5 oldest grandkids loved bunking together. Plenty of room for everyone to get together, yet still have some private space. The huge decks were our favorite place to hang out. Communicating with Marty and John was easy and effective. We will probably come back to this place. We love Highlands, and this house (and garage apartment for the two bachelor sons) accommodated our family perfectly.

Wedding in Highlands

The property is very well suited for up to 4 couples with children. Any more couples and it would get tight. Cool rustic unique look. Plenty of play space for the kids. Well supplied with everything you need. The owner is accommodating and flexible. If I have anything negative to say it would be about the driveway access. It is narrow, steep and very curvy. But the owner can do nothing about that and as long as you take your time and no one is coming from the other direction you will be fine. All in all a very good place to hang out for a few days!

Annual Fall Family Retreat

Enjoyed a beautiful week with family in a lovely home that supplied everything needed. The kitchen was complete with pots, pans, utensils and spices. Both the indoor and outdoor fireplaces provided comfortable gathering opportunities and the home was spacious and secluded. Marty was quick and available at all times and the memories made will last a lifetime!

Great home and perfect location

The six of us (all adult friends) loved the home and the location. Everyone had plenty of space. We really enjoyed the outdoor fireplace and deck spaces. We felt that the kitchen could have been a little better equipped, but we made do. We would have liked more wine glasses and some pasta bowls. Everyone thought that housekeeping should have done a better job considering the amount guests pay for housekeeping ($375). The bath mats didn’t seem clean. Also, a lot of the outdoor furniture was not clean. Chairs were dirty, tables and other surfaces dirty, and there appeared to be some type of little animal droppings next to the fireplace. It would have been really gross if we had been with our little grandsons because they find a way to get into everything and animal droppings are just plain unacceptable. If those few things were corrected, we would give the house and owner an easy 5 stars. It is a beautiful home and it felt like we were in a treehouse!

Highly recommend- beautiful and secluded but close to everything

We had the most amazing time in The Highlands with Lotts of Sky being one of the highlights. We needed a big space for family of 13. Our ages ranged from 69 to 18 months and this house was perfect! Secluded and beautiful with multiple levels and outside porches. The house was beautiful and well equipped! Plus pet friendly which was important to us. The kiddos loved the Zip line and playroom. And there was room for us to all gather at night and play games, as well as enough room to spread out for privacy. We made the best memories and even had a photographer come out to take family pictures- the area and landscaping was beautiful! Highly recommend- you won’t be disappointed

Spacious home!

We enjoyed celebrating a milestone anniversary with our family at this beautiful home! We loved the private location with the quick access to Highlands. The home owner was very responsive and helpful.

Flatlanders in the mountains

Fantastic place in great location JUST outside of highlands(very easy to get to). The house was immaculate and there was ample space for the 8 adults and 4 kids (5&under) to coexist for a week. Marty very attentive reachable and responsive. An exemplary vrbo experience

Well thought out vacation home

I could not say enough good things about this rental. The owners have thought of everything, the instructions for the home and how to care for it were well laid out. Any concerns that may have been were addressed in the welcome letter. The owner was easy to reach and had quite the wealth of information about the area. If you’re considering this property, IT IS WORTH IT! The only thing I will note, is that the loft is not in a separate space, it is actually a landing outside of the top floor master. It didn’t affect our stay but we misunderstood and one of the couples had a less private sleeping area. (Our error) - there were plenty of paper products and linens. This house is well maintained and was more than ready for a group of 10 adults to enjoy. We will very likely stay here again! Thanks Marty!

Quaint Studio Apartment

Absolutely loved this studio apartment. It's tucked away, quiet, and surrounded by the most beautiful scenery. Just a short drive or walk to the Skyline Lodge which has great food/drinks. Also a short drive to Main Street where you can shop all things local. The check in/out process was easy and the host was readily available. Will definitely be saving this listing for future vacations.

Lovely Mountain Home

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Marty was so responsive as well. The house is stunning - with beautiful balconies and porches all around to enjoy the fresh mountain scenery. It's also very close to everything we needed yet tucked away for a tranquil stay.

Peaceful and Perfect

This property perfectly suited our wants and needs. It is convenient to tons of outdoor activities and the beautiful town of Highlands; all of which we enjoyed. The house was great. but as the weather was exceptional, we spent most of our time on the large outdoor covered porch. There we grilled, ate, and enjoyed each other's company before a cheery fire.

Beautiful peaceful home!

The setting for the house is ideallic - a perfect location in the mountain woods, but also minutes away from the lovely shops of Highlands. The house was immaculate. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen was equipped for any meal. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!
