Many of the ducks have cleared out of the area near Lock and Dam 13 in Fulton, Illinois. So, I was very surprised to see this beautiful redhead. Even more surprising is that I was able to get close enough to take a photo!

I heard this belted kingfisher before I saw her! I was in a small backwater area on the Mississippi River near Fulton, Illinois. This is a great place to sit quietly an watch nature do its thing!
In another post, I said I was no longer posting eagles photos this year, well......I lied:) I just can't help myself. Along the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge, this mature Bald Eagle was perched as two Canada Geese came cruising by it. I have never seen eagles go after geese, but it seems like it would be such an easy meal for them!
