Property was nice enough, and the breakfast was good. The pancake maker was a highlight for our children. Only downside was the noise at night. We were a family of four and the family rooms are in the orchard wing, but this must be where they also put the large groups of lads on golf weekends/stag do’s because at 1am, presumably after the bar shut the party moved upstairs and the walls are very thin. We had to call down to reception and by about 2am they did come up and the noise stopped. I definitely wouldn’t risk going again as a family on a weekend.

Lovely stay in grand hotel
Lovely hotel set in amazing grounds. Pool area is lovely and water is very warm. Thoughtful touches for children. Rooms could be modernised a bit, and the size of the hotel means there can be quite a bit of walking.

Lovely country style manor
Staff were very accommodating as we had just arrived at 9am and had jet lag and desperately needed to sleep. They upgraded our room so we could crash which was much appreciated. It was also a pleasant walk into ware.

Check room location
A Nice hotel, however, I was placed in the guest house which is a 5 minutes walk to the main buildings where the facilities are. Not ideal in poor weather conditions.

Beautiful ground
The ground is spectacular with beautiful golf course and landscape. But sadly the rooms require urgent upgrading as it is really far too dated. Staff was friendly and helpful.

The only “complaint” (not even really a complaint) is that the interiors are a bit aged and could use some renovation works here and there. However, the whole place and especially the surrounding grounds are so beautiful and charming that it more than makes up for any imperfections. The staff are wonderful too - highly recommend!

I really like the hotel but it’s a little bit isolated public transport very difficult. The rooms have no air conditioning which to make it very uncomfortable. If it’s warm last time I stayed it was winter so didn’t affect me but this time I realise that that is a big issue for this hotel. It really does need a full makeover from Marriott, it’s quite outdated, and although some of the features are nice being old, I feel the room is not one of them because it should be more modern with Aircon. New carpets new curtains etc probably won’t stay again and less I can’t get anything else

It cost 1000 for the weekend We had to pay for internet, we paid for £80 for a couple of drinks and the microwave food they offer at the bar. When we checked out at 9 am, they wouldn't let our child have a last swim, despite checkout being 11. Definitely not a high class experience

Lovely place to stay especially if you are a golfer, which I am not. However, I enjoyed the stay very much. Staff were lovely and very helpful. The only things I was slightly disappointed with were the dining options, which I found a bit limited and seemed to vary from day to day and whether you ordered room service or dined at the restaurant. Having said that I must say that I had one of the best Ribeye's I've had in a while. I can only guess the reason for the limited variety in their main restaurant (Cast Iron Grill) was because of it being a Country Club. Spa treatments were fully booked for the Saturday and Sunday we stayed. Not sure if this was because of limited facilities / staff or if they were genuinely busy. Having said that there was a wedding and a golfing event that weekend. The only other thing that I was lightly disappointed, which had nothing to do with the Hotel itself, is the absence of decent walking trails and footpaths, especially given its rural setting. We did however find a good location nearby called Three Lakes, which had a good pub and some good walks around the lakes. We also struggled to get an Uber when trying to book a ride from the hotel, and I understood later that was because of the patchy cell network in that area. The hotel staff were however very patient and got us a ride via the local mini cab service, which cost twice what Uber would have charged.

Check in was easy. Staff was nice and helpful. Breakfast and restaurants were good when open- expensive but not unusual for Marriott. The hotel is old and needs upgrading. Rooms were hot-No AC- only small table fan which was plugged on far side as room as no outlets near bed. Room was so hot that when the housekeeper came in, she immediately went in search of another fan. Window in room could not be opened and looked like it would fall off the hinges. Outlets on bed side of wall were a strange round 3 pin configuration and room lamps were plugged into these. The biggest issue was the pervasive smell of sewer in and around the hotel for 4 out of the 5 days we were there. We brought this to the attention of the staff and were told that the smell ‘appears from time to time’ We would have moved straight away as we were having nausea and abdominal discomfort from the smell but we were there for a wedding and this was the recommended nearest hotel so we just tried to stay away from the hotel as much as possible. We could not even enjoy the grounds because of the smell. We cut our stay short and checked out as early as we could, Manager on duty when we were leaving refused to give us an extra hour to check out even though as Marriott members we usually can get that. Expedia was very good about getting us some money back for the last 2 days that we had paid for
