Beautiful location
Beautiful property. They have everything you need to enjoy the outdoors. It’s pretty clean and cozy. The goat was nice and responsive. The decor is a bit outdated. We didn’t have the best internet connection and I was unaware that you have to leave the main house to go to the second bedroom downstairs. Overall a beautiful property. I would love to try again when the weather is warm so we could enjoy the river.

Beautiful on the water
We live this place. The owner is excellent. Left us a small basket of goodies for our anniversary and always has been available for questions. Great small mouth fishing in the Shenandoah river right across the street on the property. The place is quiet, we usually see deer on the property and it is a great place to get away from the rat race.

Family Weekend Getaway
This was the perfect property for a weekend away. Lots of things to do close by. We hiked Shenandoah National Park during the day and came back and fished/played in the river in the evening.

Perfect stay
It was the perfect few days/nights at the house. Close to SNP and Luray Caverns. The river out front was great to relax by and tube down. Everyone in my party 17/18 year olds and 45 year olds had a wonderful time. Highly recommend.

Beautiful property
We spent a few nights here while exploring the Shenandoah National Park. The property is reasonably close to the park and Marc provided helpful information about getting to the park and things to do while there. The property is clean and comfortable and very well stocked. The bottom floor is completely separate from the upstairs. You have to exit outside and climb stairs to get to the other floor. We have young children so navigating locking them in at night and unlocking them in the morning took some adjusting to but it ended up being fine. And the property itself is so beautiful and peaceful. We enjoyed every evening with dinner on the outside deck over looking the river and then moved down to the fire pit right by the river and roasted marshmallows and watched fireflies and just unwound. It was magical! Thank you for allowing us to stay Marc! We enjoyed it very much.

Beautiful and clean property!!
We had a fantastic stay in River nest. The property is very clean and well designed. We mainly visited Shenandoah National Park. Our host Marc was very good with communication. We had no problem finding the property . The second bedroom with bathroom can only accessed from outside so that was a not perfect for us as we have little kids , so we used the sofa bed instead which is good as well. During summer months the downstair separate bedroom with bath can be great for quick access to the water. Overall we had a fantastic stay . The property was clean and well kept.Marc and the brochures provided us with information about ‘things to do’ where to eat etc. Thanks !

Great location.
We have stayed twice now and the property is great. You can walk right down to the Shenandoah river. Close to Luray caverns and the Shenandoah national park. House has everything we needed.

Wonderful Fall Weekend
We had a great stay at this property. We spent most of our time in the park, but it was wonderful to wake up to the river and all the fall colors. Would absolutely stay here again.

We had a amazing stay!
It was a great family trip. Felt like the days weren't long enough bc there is so much to do. Everything was nice. We absolutely loved the back deck at night an in the early morning. So many peaceful sounds at those times. We even saw a black bear run across the road. Would go back for sure.

Great place to relax

Wonderful Stay
We had a great time staying at this property. The views were lovely and the house was clean and was exactly what we wanted. We saw deer, birds and bunnies. Marc was very responsive when I had any questions and gave suggestions about the area. Close to the park and only a couple hrs drive even to D.C. Mama Mia's has great pizza and delivers.

Place was better in person! Perfect place to unwind after a day at Shenandoah National Park. Very well equipped kitchen with choices, regular or Keurig coffeemaker, charcoal or gas grill… Owner kept in touch and left great suggestions in house of things to do and see. Will definitely come back in fall to enjoy fall leaves.

What a healing weekend

Splendid spot
Beautiful riverfront cabin and location for a peaceful break to unplug from hectic schedule. The cabin was well stocked with everything you need. Cute decor and a beautiful view of the river from deck. Grocercy store and Walmart close by to pick up anything you may need. Great restaurants within a short drive. Close to caverns and Skyline Drive. Definitely hope to return in warmer months to take advantage of river. Very responsive owner that was a pleasure to deal with.

Stay two nights in Feb as a family. Very clean and cute place w well stocked kitchen and firewood. Owner Mac super nice. Enjoy hiking and firepit by the river. Teens love it so much. Next time will buy waterpark tix in advance to avoid soldout. Thanks Mac.

Return Visit
This was our family's second stay at this property. Everything has been well-maintained and improved over time. There are new neighbors, so a little less private. We had two recommendations for improvements. First, and urgently, the pans in the kitchen largely need to be replaced. We we're expecting anything fantastic, but what is there clearly has non-stick coatings peeling off and needs to be replaced by whatever is on sale at Kohls or whatever. Second, and more a matter of personal preference, figure out an internet solution. We used our hotspots and survived that way, but lots of people don't have those types of plans/phones (I don't think we had the right plan last time). In any event, I'm sure some people are looking to avoid connecting during a cabin vacation - but not everybody. Some type of internet for the property would make it much more comfortable/easy for families and remote workers.

Thanks for the review Jay and appreciate all the feedback. I will certainly take a look at all pots and pans and replace them as needed. I would have been happy to take care of it during your stay if I had known. The new landscape and trees I planted last year should help restore some of the privacy between the new neighbor's house and River Nest. As for the Internet, yes that is sometimes a point of interest but we do advise that Internet is not available, largely due to coverage in the area. Cable is not an option but satellite could be. However, satellite line of sight and obstructions with mountains definitely create some challenges and instability. Hotspots have actually been the best and most reliable alternative, but they don't solve heavy bandwidth/streaming usage. Hotspots do work wonderfully when working remote as you point out.

So peaceful!
We had such a wonderful experience at River's Nest! I knew we had picked the perfect spot the second we walked in. It was beautifully decorated (we stayed during Christmas) and it felt so cozy. Everything was clean, the cabinets were well stocked with kitchen supplies, and games and DVD's galore in the living area! It was the perfect place to spend our Christmas Vacation in the mountains!

Great time
This rental was the most hospitable and cleanest we had ever had in 30+ years of renting vacation homes. I would rate as a 4 1/2 out of 5 only reason not 5 , is the outside pavers leading to the downstairs bedroom.

Thanks for the review and feedback. Sorry that the outside pavers to access the lower level came as a surprise. I'm already in the planning stages to build an extension to add an enclosed stairwell, connecting both levels but this won't be in place until sometime next year.

Fabulous weekend getaway!
The River Nest was everything we thought it would be and more! 5 of us did a ladies weekend here and Marc was extremely attentive to our questions and any needs we had during our stay. It was impeccably clean and a lovely gift basket welcomed us. We took advantage of the tubes & the games at the house and the fire pit near the river. I highly recommend staying here- it was great!

We had a very busy graduation weekend and basically only slept here, but we enjoyed our stay. We didn’t have a chance to enjoy the deck with beautiful views of the river because it was too cold and there wasn’t any time. Cell signal was good, thankfully. We really appreciated the nice welcome basket and there was a great selection of DVD’s. It was a cozy, comfortable home. Thanks again!

Cleanest Rental We've Stayed At
This was a very nice property tucked back on a beautiful country road that paralleled the river. It was so quiet at night, it made for a relaxing trip. The house was very clean and the floor passed the white sock test, 1st time that's ever happened! We love to cook and the spice collection was very helpful. Lots to do in the area, amazing scenery even if it's just a trip to the store. I would definitely recommend this to families, couples, whomever. Marc was a great host even though we didnt meet!

Beautiful house on the Shenandoah
We had a lovely time here. I wish we had booked a longer visit. The house was very clean and really thoughtfully set up. It was a perfect base for hiking in Shenandoah National Park and relaxing by the river.

excellent spot for family or two couples...we traveled with our close friends and the house was perfect for both time together and for privacy when desired...extrememly clean and well kept...beautiful deck to relax and grill and watch the river

Rest by the River
Even with chilly weather it is a wonderful place to get away. There was construction going on nearby but they didn’t work on the weekends. This property is having some outside land work. Therefore since it rained/ snowed while we were there it was very muddy in the dirt gravel driveway and area leading to the door. We just left our muddy shoes at the door! But the house itself was wonderful!

We loved this place! It was so beautiful, inside and out! Perfect cozy getaway!
River Nest was amazing! The view of the River every morning and eating meals out on the deck was nothing less of perfect! We will definitely be coming back. It was not too far from Shenandoah National Park or Massanutten Resort, which was perfect for our mini vacation. It was very clean when we arrived and the check out process was very clear. We left wanting to come back as soon as possible... LOL

Awesome stay.
The house was wonderful - exactly what we needed for a quick weekend away from the city! The house could not have been any cleaner, and we had exactly what we needed for cooking several meals. We loved the fact that there was no internet or cable, it really helped us to disconnect for a few days out in the "wilderness." The trains were also pretty neat to see, although they can be a little noisy at night. No matter, though. We will remember this trip for years to come!

Great River Retreat
My family of four stayed at River Nest over the weekend and we didn't want to leave, The view was wonderful while drinking our coffee in the morning and no words can describe how peaceful and picturesque the cottage and views were. The owner, Marc, made himself available and was very responsive. We knew if we needed anything that he would take care of it. But the cottage had everything we needed and more. We will definitely be coming back in the summer. Thanks Marc!

Quiet time away
We were so fortunate to get a quiet weekend away and visit Luray Caverns close by for my daughters birthday. The place is so clean and sweetly decorated for the holidays. We enjoyed movies, games and recommendations for the Italian restaurant (really really good!). We didn’t realize the entrance for the downstairs was only from the outside, but was nice privacy for our teenagers. Thanks for the welcome basket and making us comfortable during this time.
