Hever Castle was the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, second wife of Henry VIII. The castle went through a number of owners since the Boleyn family after passing to the Crown on the death of Anne's father, Thomas Boleyn . In 1903 it was acquired by William Waldorf Astor, an American millionaire, who restored it in Tudor style using, as far as possible, the same tools as Tudor craftsmen. The extensive castle grounds are beautiful in summer, and include a rose garden which is lovely in full bloom. Definitely worth a visit for history-lovers and nature-lovers alike. Highlights include Anne Boleyn's bedroom and the collection of portraits of Henry VIII and his six wives.
A wonderful tour of the castle. Then we made our way to the gardens. Amazing. Beautiful waterfall. With a lake not to far. They had an awesome water maze and a garden maze.
Chartwell House, the former home of Winston Churchill, now owned by the National Trust. Interesting museum and lovely walks in the grounds.
