We've stayed at this hotel a few times, but not recently, last stay prior to this one, was a couple of years ago.
The hotel is now a wedding venue. On our arrival, due to a wedding being on, the grounds were temporarily out of bounds. The panoramic dining area/restaurant is now a wedding function room and not for non wedding guests to use. There is a small, darker far less picturesque room/bar area which is used for dinner and breakfast.
We checked into a standard double room, room number 104 on the first floor. The room was clean and tidy, lovely view across the bay to Robin Hoods Bay, all seemed good. We went out that evening and returned to our room about 2100 hrs. Thats when things turned bad, our room was directly above the function room (old panoramic dining area), the noise of partying, announcements and ridiculously load music was horrendous. I think the music stopped about midnight, however from then until about 2am, there was constantly people returning to rooms and slamming doors. Breakfast the next morning was a buffet style self service, plenty of hot and cold options. We opted for the cooked breakfast, in general it was over cooked and tasteless.
I would be very reluctant to use this hotel again and would certainly never consider using it over a wedding event.
It's such a pity, it used to be such a picturesque and characterful place to say.
We were not aware that a wedding was on at the time of booking, luckily we were only staying for one night.
