Overall, we enjoyed Belize and had a solid stay here, but there are trade offs to be aware of. The location is excellent, very close to San Ignacio and many of the tourist sites. We had a rental car; the walk from town is uphill the entire way and not recommended. The neighborhood seemed safe, there was a school and other nice houses, but the house directly across the street was rather run down and the occupants were in and out all day, running a business delivering bags of ice out of the ground floor. Their two dogs were not aggressive - they just watched me lock the gate - but they did bark much of the night. Unless you live in a noisy, urban area, do not expect to get a good nights sleep here. The windows are the louvered/slat style and did not block out the barking dogs, or constant motorcycle and ATV traffic. Also be aware that the pictures are quite favorable, and must have been taken years ago, with special lighting. In actuality, the house was not as bright and clean as the pictures suggest. Something else to be aware of is that there are a ton of locks and layers of security. The pro was that we felt very safe with a padlocked driveway gate, a padlocked metal cage around the stairs, and a lock and deadbolt combo on every door. Just be aware, if you rent both units you’ll be managing something like six different keys. Overall, I’d say this is a decent choice if you want to stay in a local home, but we regretted not staying at one of the lodges.
