Durham is coming back to life. When we moved here 15 years ago a major restoration was underway. Old tobacco warehouses were being remodeled into incredible restaurants, shopping centers and loft apartments. This neighborhood has that same charm. It's a beautiful blend of older homes with character and newly renovated. That's what we love. You will find wonderful neighbors of various ages and races.

*YMCA Access: We have worked it out with the YMCA that our guests can use their facilities for free for up to 7 consecutive days. They have 4 locations in Durham with multiple pools, gyms, tennis courts, racquetball courts, etc. You can also use the YMCA’s in Chapel Hill and Raleigh.

Duke Graduation weekend

There were 5 of us staying there, and we weren't actually there much. Living area was not conducive to all of us hanging out as 1 sort of comfortable couch, no coffee table and one small bench. Convenient location. Pleasant deck. Could use some fresh paint to make look spiffier.

Not well maintained and unresponsive

Property looks good on pictures but was not well maintained. Coffee table and ottoman were low quality and shaky, one of the two showers did not work, no curtains in primary bedroom so it was quite bright even with blinds down. We contacted the host about the issues with the shower not working but did not get a resolution even a full week after checkout. We asked about whether there was coffee and received an incorrect response that there was a Keurig coffee maker when it was an Amazon brand drip coffee maker.

Good option close to Duke Campus

The house is new and it looks nice. The neighborhood itself is pretty bad and feels unsafe. A lot of bumps, houses in decay, and not a familiar or friendly place to be. This set of 4 or 5 houses seems so out of place to the way the whole neighborhood looks. Staying with friends might be an option but I would hesitate to go back with my family and small kids.

The house is comfortable, tho' the furniture is not of very high quality. There is a fun PacMan (and other games) arcade game to keep people of all ages entertained.

The overall stay was fine and the house was cute. The neighborhood was acceptable as well. However, there were some cleanliness issues on the first night. A countertop that looked to have been missed by the cleaners had a sticky substance on it, which we promptly cleaned with our Clorox wipes and a pile of hair that had been gathered to be swept up but wasn't completed. Other than that the stay was fine.

Nice spot with responsive host

First night did not turn out as planned because of cleaning crew not doing their job, however host did respond quickly and rectify situation. This place is very nice and in a very convenient location, very spacious also. The labels on everything were Great to find things and place is super organized. Even though we didn't spend too much time outside the back deck is nice and a relaxing spot for drinks or the kids to play. The couch downstairs is not so comfortable but all the other beds were. We would stay here again.

The location is very convenient and the neighborhood is obviously improving. A lot of new construction in this area. House is very nice and is exactly like the owner described.

Great First Experience

This was my first time using VRBO, and it was fantastic. Our host Brad was awesome, and responded to all inquiries quickly and completely. The property was immaculate, and suited our needs. There were even fun perks like a video game machine. It was close to everything we wanted to do in Durham's lovely downtown. I would not hesitate to stay at "Red Bird" on my next trip to this city!

Great stay

The house was beautiful and is close to everything we had planned! I am from Durham so the location of the house I knew was not the best of the area but like I said, I’m from Durham and know that as long as you don’t bother anyone they won’t bother you! I came for my birthday with friends and was by far the best birthday ever! We utilized the house for one of the days we were there and it was great and we had everything we needed and more! I would most DEFF rent this place out again!

The house was perfect. Squeaky clean and well stocked. The area/neighborhood is sketchy. It looks like the area is being revitalized with house reno’s going on around the house. However, there was no disturbing construction noise. We had a great time!

The house was as pictured, and the host was very responsive and communicative. Unfortunately it was located in an area I felt unsafe staying alone with my kids. We did not stay at the property, and were disappointed that we wasted so much money.

Short trip to Durham

My father and I made a short trip to Durham to visit my son and his girlfriend at UNC…and play golf. The house was perfect, clean, and conveniently located. It was my dad’s first VRBO experience and he is now sold. He is now looking at VRBO properties in both England and Ireland for an up and coming trip. When we return to the Durham area we will definitely try to stay here again.
