We are so sorry you didn't like our property. We feel extremely blessed that we are considered "well off" living on this island and are able to enjoy having a lovely home. Unfortunately others on this island, as well as other communities all around the world, struggle to make ends meet in order to live. Goods on islands are sometimes double the cost that they are on the mainland of the US. Furniture is extremely expensive here. Our Hawaiian islands have a vast array of housing situations from mansions and closed "gated" communities to bungalows, beach cottages, yurts, and yes, even tents. If you are a true world-wide adventurer, you find people live very different than US citizens do on the capitalist mainland. As human beings, some people are perfectly content living in different kinds of situations and find their happiness and peace in whatever they decide to call home. As a law enforcement officer who patrols my own neighborhood, I know the people who are living in the "minimalist" dwelling you mentioned in your judgmental review. They paid $30,000 in CASH for their property and are currently saving to build their new home on their piece of the American dream. If you had continued your stay, you would have realized the 18,000 BTU, 1 ton unit cools the entire dwelling comfortably. Most guests who stay here actually choose to keep their windows open for the trade winds and fresh ocean air. I pray you find some happiness like the residents of this island have - somewhere.
