Minimalist Architectural Jewel Near Oaxaca City with Pool & Plush Gardens
Minimalist jewel full of light opening onto gardens of towering trees and blooming succulents, multiple terraces and a 22-meter heated, lap pool. The house is the work of two designers, local artisans, and artists who have crafted furnishings, rugs, wall decor, beautifully appointed adobe and other walls painted in the ancient technique of baba de nopal. There are two bedrooms, two full baths, and closets, as well as a study with sofa bed, a well-equipped kitchen and living dining area.
We offer coffee, tea, and spices. We also offer toiletries such as toothpaste, shampoo, bath gel, and insect repellent. We can also pre-order you basic groceries if you would like, so that you have something to eat upon your arrival (milk, eggs, cheese, granola bars, etc...). Guests can also purchase tortillas and breakfast close to home. In addition, there are various local restaurants for lunch and early dinners. Lastly, if you would like we can arrange for our cook to prepare a meal at home for you and your family. Often times, this is a great option for guests arriving in the evening when there are limited options late at night and when travelers are exhausted. We just need to have ample time to prepare, so if this is something you would want, please let us know as soon as possible.
The rooftop terrace offers a spectacular view of the mountains, sunsets, and sunrises. Guests share a protected outside dining and cooking area suitable for many activities. There is also a private patio in the back of the home, perfect place to read a book and enjoy a cup of coffee. The pool area contains separate bath and dressing rooms. The laundry is open to use as are organic vegetables from the garden. Guests are charged for cleaning upon departure and can contract it during their stay.
The compound is protected by high walls and our 24-hour on-site manager, Gil, who is always ready to help with any property issue. He only speaks Spanish, but Google translate has helped all of our guests.
One drawback to the tranquility is nearby music. Once a week a local band of fine musicians practices in the afternoon (usually Wednesdays). Guests never complain as most are out and about during their practice hours. Perhaps one to two Saturdays a month the salón de fiestas next door plays loud music. We have protection from it, if you are bothered by the loud noise. In addition, if the music annoys guests, we are pleased to negotiate a discount for the night.
We can also secure taxis into town at your convenience (typically 200-250 pesos) and rides to local excursions that are safe and accommodating for various group sizes. (For the tours, we will need at least a few days notice to book the driver.) If you have your own car, parking is free, ample and secure. We can also help organize cooking classes that our guests have truly enjoyed over the years.
The former owner of the property, my Mom, (who sadly passed away in late 2024) was a Mexican historian and avid Mexican art and artisanry collector and her incredible taste is exhibited in the three homes and gardens on the property.
Lastly, we do have two friendly dogs that live on the property (Blanca and Buddy). They are good with children and have learned not to go into the rental homes.
