2/10 Horrible

House of HorrorsThe check-in process was extremely frustrating. It took 25 minutes to gain access, and the host was largely unresponsive except to require a 20 non-refundable “damage deposit” before sending instructions. The listing was inaccurate—it advertised 2 bathrooms and a balcony, but there was only 1 bathroom and no balcony. Instead, there was a large pile of trash and an abandoned structure behind the property.Inside, conditions were unacceptable. The bedroom had no lightbulbs, the bathroom lacked even a hand towel, and we were provided two worn beach towels on a dirty, broken shelf. Several kitchen drawers and cabinets were broken and filled with unsettling items such as used toothbrushes, razors, gloves, supplement bottles, and random cords. Most concerning were two interior doors hidden behind sheer curtains. They were unlocked and led to areas clearly not part of the rental, both with separate exterior access. One appeared to be an abandoned chiropractic office. The other contained a table with a wig, knives, jewelry, tubes of unknown substances, plus an unmade bed, shoes, dirty laundry, and missing kitchen items.Because these areas could not be secured, I did not feel safe staying and left. VRBO policy requires guests to be able to secure the property. I am now disputing this with the host and have escalated the issue to VRBO support.
