First, I have to say we had a wonderful week while staying at Casa Alina. We were 6 adults (3 couples) on vacation together and had a great time. That being said, we did a lot of research to find just the right rental while in Tuscany and it turned out that Casa Alina did not deliver on much of what we were expecting based on the description on VRBO. Here are the pros and cons of the property so hopefully you can decide what is best for your group.
Pros: All the modern amenities were just as described--wifi, satellite tv, US outlets, A/C, washer/dryer. The kitchen was fantastic for a rental--lots of great cookware, glasses and silverware (we did a fare amount of cooking and it was all great). The entire house was clean. The furniture was fairly new and comfortable. The location is on a quiet road a full 5-minute drive from Montespertoli, a very cute Tuscan town.
Cons: The pictures and description when we booked (8/2013) give the impression of a standalone 12th century villa. In reality, it is a townhouse with shared walls of 4 or so other properties. The enclosed backyard is about 15 sq ft of grass with a small patio just big enough for the outdoor table and chairs (for 6). We spent very little time out there mostly because of the mosquitos, but the "panoramic views of olive groves and vineyards" cannot be easily seen from the backyard because of the properties trees and shrubs. The one picture that is captioned "Backyard Views!" is not a view I ever saw from the backyard. The 3rd bedroom is not really a bedroom. It is a converted attic space slightly bigger than the full-size bed. There is a dresser and a chair, but no A/C and no real privacy. This space could be fine for kids/teens, but is not good for an adult couple. The main living space/tv room comfortably seats 3 adults. If a couple snuggled up on the love seat, you can make that 4. We had 6 adults and ended up not all sit in the living room together at the same time.
Our group plan was to spend time in the house/on the property as a part of our vacation. We cooked and hung out together in the evenings. For that reason, this was not a good property for our group. Maybe for only 4 adults with the same vacation plan, in which case it would probably be too expensive.
In summary, the place was safe, comfortable and clean. Depending on your vacation needs, it could be great; just be sure it fits all of your needs.
