I was a bit afraid with the reviews but also curious, so I had to check by myself. I loved that place. First I had a European room with share bathroom but decided to upgrade to a garden room. Yes, the carpet and curtains shows sign of wear, it's not perfect like a new Holiday Inn, but I felt like a princess in the gigantic bed.

Ne correspond pas à la description faites attentio
Nous avons changer d'hôtel car celui ci ne correspondait pas à la description ni à nos besoins. Aucune salle de bain dans la chambre, nous devions utiliser celle de l'étage et partagée avec une panoplie de voyageur. Arrivé dans notre chambre, Pas assez d'espace pour ouvrir nos 2 valises en même temps. La chambre sent le renfermé. Le lit est extrêmement inconfortable. De notre chambre, nous entendons très bien la musique provenant du bar. Comme si la musique provenait de la chambre a l'étage. Les chambres voisines sont très bruyantes malgré le fait qu'il est 11h30. Nous avons décidé de changer d'hôtel.

Thank you for choosing Mendocino Hotel. We have other room types larger with private bath. For the future. Merci d'avoir choisi l'hôtel Mendocino. Nous avons d'autres types de chambres plus grandes avec salle de bain privée. Pour le futur.

Bel hôtel de style victorien près de l'océan.
Je n'ai que passé qu'une nuit. La toilette et la douche sur l'étage me convient. Heureusement hors saison moins de monde. Excellente bouffe, je me suis régalée.

Cool property but in dire need of updates and maintenance! The bones are there but it needs some TLC the restaurant was completely out of commission but was told they have plans to redo and reopen

Great older hotel with our buildings with additional rooms. A bit dated but still charming. Unfortunately restaurant and bar had been closed for a year or more and are slated for renovations later this year. Would have been great to have these active and have an active lobby scene.

Management oversight was terrible. No TV controller. Promises Presto Log for fire place was not there. Shampoo and body wash dispencers were empty. The only heat was a small oil heater that resulted in a very cold room. All in all, a very bad booking.

Very Nice location and friendly front desk staff. The Mendocino Hotel has lost its luster an is badly in need of an upgrade. We stayed in a garden suite which had a strong moldy smell, it was very cold and had no thermostat, only a portable heater; we brought some food from a restaurant, left if out for a couple of hours and when we went to eat it it was full of ants. This used to be a wonderful hotel, unfortunately it no longer is.

I would not stay here again. I booked via Expedia, its list of facilities is woefully out of date. There is no food or drink available on site, the tea and coffee in the communal area is over the road and only available for a few hours in the morning. The property may well have been built in the late 1800s the cobwebs hanging from the ceiling help to authenticate this. The bed mattress has been upgraded since Victorian times but probably only the once. It’s a fight to sleep in the middle as the edges have no support and you roll out of the side. I booked a queen size bed but it seemed like a standard double, although I didn’t have a tape measure to check. It would have been nice to have a bedside table on both sides of the bed, we had to make do with an upturned drawer. On positive note the bathroom was nice and bright. The shower head was intended for Victorian guests as it was only 5’6” high and the hot water flow miserably poor.

A perfectly reasonable priced quaint hotel in a romantic fallen down town. All of it vibrates California history and charm. Lobby is wonderful.

The hotel is in terrible shape. Our room had torn curtains and there is mold in the window panes. The steps to the room had dry rot with holes. Definitely a hazard.

Despite the hotel being practically empty, they put us in a room in the annex with creepy haunted children photos on the walls (all good, easily covered with towels). But our toilet ran constantly, the fan didn't work in our bathroom so we had to keep the door open, and they don't regularly change the batteries on their smoke detector so it BEEEEEPED at one minute intervals all night long. Seriously, every minute, on the minute from 11pm until the next morning. No sleep was had. When I mentioned to the front desk lady in the morning, she was great about it and offered a refund. But she told me I'd have to initiate through Expedia, then they would call the hotel and the hotel would confirm. Well, I did that. But when Expedia called the hotel they refused the refund, even with several tries. Mendocino is an adorable town, but stay elsewhere.

The employee who checked us into our rooms was THE BEST! He told us a little bit about the history of the building, gave us a list of restaurants, and was so funny! He definitely was the highlight of our stay! Please give him a raise!

Disappointing stay in a magical town
The guest cottage I stayed in was rough. The property overall is not maintained well and shows its age. The room was poor quality overall, particularly the bathroom. The location is excellent and in the center of the small town. The front desk service was friendly. The room was not serviced, which I was told at check in. If you have no other option for a night or two, this will do the job. I would not stay here as a tourist, unless you have very low standards.

We were disappointed that we weren’t made aware that there was no longer a restaurant / bar open on site. The young man that checked us was very courteous and kind to us. He made us feel welcome. The bed was very comfortable and the room was clean. It was sad to see a once beautiful hotel almost shut down. Probably won’t stay there again until up and running full scale again.
