ABOUT THIS SPACE

Historic Dodge Lodge is a fully remodeled Victorian on the edge of Lake Geneva's Maple Park district — original bones, brand-new everything else. Five bedrooms, six beds, room for twelve, and enough separate rooms that your group can be together without being on top of each other. You come in through the original double doors into a foyer with a carved staircase that has held this house up since the 1800s, under eleven-foot ceilings.

THE GAME ROOM. Two classic arcade cabinets on free play, a full-size foosball table and a shelf of board games, in a sun room with windows on three sides. Nobody leaves voluntarily.

THE MAIN FLOOR. A sectional under a wide bay window, a second sitting room with a wall TV behind glass French doors, and a dining room under a brass chandelier with one long table seating ten. Open the doors and the floor becomes one room; close them and the movie crowd and the card crowd stop competing.

THE KITCHEN. A full-size gas range, French-door refrigerator, stainless Kohler farmhouse sink, dishwasher, and counter on both sides so two people can cook at once. The coffee bar runs a Ratio 6 drip brewer, a pour-over cone and four syrups.

UPSTAIRS. A second kitchen — butcher block counter, gas range, sink, dishwasher, Keurig — so early risers eat without waking the main floor, plus its own washer and dryer and a walk-in shower.

WHERE YOU'LL SLEEP. Two kings and four queens across five bedrooms, weighted blankets on the king rooms, ceiling fans in most, TVs in two — plus a getting-ready room with vanity stations under a full wall of windows, the room reviewers name by name.

You are in the Maple Park historic district, one street off the pace of downtown and close enough to walk to nearly everything.

- Thursday farmers market — 1 block away, May through October
- Downtown shops, coffee and dinner on Broad and Main — 5 to 10 minutes
- Geneva Lake Shore Path, the 21-mile footpath around the lake
- Lake Geneva Cruise Line and the U.S. Mailboat pier — about 6 minutes

Chicago is roughly 1 hour 45 minutes away, Milwaukee about 1 hour. Come in February for Winterfest, or in August for Venetian Festival.
