« I almost hesitate to give this a five-star review, because I don’t want the secret to get out – this is the best place to stay in Houghton! Our son is a student at MTU, so we are in the area numerous times a year. We have stayed at various other properties (both Airbnb’s and other hotels), but Independence Stay has become our go-to spot. « The house is clean and well stocked. The Kitchen has utensils and lots of pots and pans. The Master bedroom is spacious and nicely furnished. The master bath is great, love walk-in shower. Beautiful scenery , cool bar and sauna. Great time with family. »

« The cabin was cute, very outdoorsy but really cool. We tried to count all the bears in the cabin, we never could come up with an actual count. We looked all around in our adventure to the north for a bear to add and could not find one. Really nice place. The traffic was a bit much the first night but we got used to it.
