The Ikilai is an older property but this unit was recently renovated. There were some immediate issues - the sofabed was horribly uncomfortable and the couch stinks and should be replaced, there were long, dark hairs on the walls in the master bathroom, the toilets didn't flush well, and the master bathtub did not drain well and was difficult to turn on. There are blinds giving privacy to the two bedrooms but they are broken and look bad. There is a leak on the main lanai so when you sit there you get dripped on (no rain until our last full day). A note was left at the front desk but they were very rude and did not fix or respond during our stay. I reached out again to Garnd Welcome after our stay and they ignored me as well, so I am writing this review.
The beds were very comfortable but the ACs as very loud. The kitchen was well-stocked. The unit is at the end of the hallway so very quiet from neighbors. There is no laundry in the unit but down the hall from the unit....there was a weird and smelly guy sitting on our floor by the elevators so we didn't feel safe to do our laundry or have our daughters go out on their own. We did tell security and they dealt with it immediately..
We had towels drying on chairs on the lanai (not over the railing) and security came into the unit without permission or notice and took them off the chairs, scaring my daughter.
The check-in time and check-out times are ridiculous and Grand Welcome refused to let us check-out at noon so we had somewhere to stay while waiting to go to the airport.
Lastly, the pool is deep but has short hours (closes at 7/7:30) and does not allow jumping in. The lady running it was very nice though. The grocery store staff were awesome too.
For the money, I would really stay somewhere else. There are comparable units throughout Waikiki where we have stayed before and felt much more welcome.
By the way, I have stayed at many VRBOs and have never left a bad review before.
