The pictures on VRBO do NOT do this property justice. It is amazingly beautiful and peaceful. The family room and kitchen were so spacious that everyone hung out for hours every evening for meals and to play games. We spent a lot of time together on the massive wrap-around porches. The kids loved petting the goats and horses and checking for eggs in the chicken coop. And the whole family laid in the courtyard at night watching the stars. We went to Kona and Hilo to do a few touristy things. But I would have been happy just staying at the house. The yoga studio is awesome.
Tanner, the caretaker, lives nearby and took us on a tour of the land. He’s a conservationist and is working to reintroduce trees and protect the Hawaiian ecosystem. He’s very knowledgeable- we learned quite a bit from him. Also, we were celebrating the life of my younger brother who passed recently and he brought 3 trees for us to plant in his memory. It was very thoughtful and meant a lot to all of us.
I would recommend buying groceries before you head there (there’s a great Costco in Kona). But other than food, everything you need is there (including a kitchen with all the utensils you need and even beach chairs and boogie boards for the beach). I would also recommend doing the initial drive up the mountain during the day. The road is safe but quite an adventure the first night. LOL.
This is the perfect spot for a restful retreat and was my favorite vacation ever. I couldn’t recommend it more. Thank you!!
