I was not aware we would be in a room with NO air condition! Also the walls are so thin you can hear every word spoken in the rooms next to you, which means they can hear you as well. There are quite a few hotels/motels in the Spruceglen Inn listing. When a person gets the confirm email for their stay, It would be VERY helpful if the physical address to the place they are staying was linked to google maps.

The overhead ceiling fan was disgusting. We definitely cleaned it ourselves before using it

Good Economical Motel
Keep in mind that you are in Grand Marais, not Manhattan nor downtown Chicago. Grand Marais has motels or lodging. This one has what you should expect from a motel: a clean bathroom, access to hot tub and pool, grab and go breakfast and walking distance to restaurants and bars. It's the lowest priced motel in town; take advantage of their amenities to get your money's worth.

Hey-it was good. Front desk was friendly, place was clean, right in the heart of it all. Great, simple place as a gateway to the trials and splendor of the north.

If you are looking for luxury this isn’t your place. Nice clean room with ceiling fan. No a/c. Small room. The Aspen Lodge is next door, motel patrons may use the pool and spa. Motel is in the town so is walkable to the Lake, restaurants and shopping. Motel is on Hwy 61 so easy access to the Sawtooth Mountains and hiking destinations.

There were gross stains on the mattress, the sheets, and the comforter. I asked for clean sheets and even that was stained. I asked if they washed the comforter between guests and they said only twice a week because “most people don’t sleep on the comforter.” The room smelled really bad and there was no air conditioning. The room was hot and humid.

When booking online, please make sure to read all about the property your are looking into as we do not list Spruceglen as having A/C. The rooms at Spruceglen are listed as having ceiling fans and heaters.

Two night stay just right
Small room with king bed. TV and fridge, no coffee or microwave in room. Those were available in main lobby which was fine for the price. We just needed a place to sleep and base out of, this fit the bill. Loved being 2 blocks from downtown. Would stay again 👍

We felt deserted n looked poorly, had to check in next door. the advertisement said AC but there was none. never cleaned rooms. Sorry but won't go back there again.

We are sorry you weren't happy with the Spruceglen accommodations, but it is listed on all booking sights that there is no A/C in the rooms at Spruceglen. It is a seasonal annex of Aspen Lodge so staffing is at the main lodge building. All rooms are cleaned in between guests, but service is not provided during your stay due to COVID unless requested. Thank you for letting us know know your thoughts. Your feedback helps us get better in providing our guests with better service and necessary information.

This was very insulting!
The room was awful! No air conditioning! A “BOX” tv! Spots and stains on the roof, walls, ground, and bed! Holes in the sheets! A giant spider “ON THE BED” not even ten minutes of us entering the room. We sprayed bug spray around the bed frame. This was beyond disgusting. Never will we return here!

We’re so sorry that your experience did not match your expectations. Spruceglen is an older drive up motel. There are no frills but it is kept clean, and it is an affordable alternative for some during the busy tourist season here in Grand Marais when lodging is hard to find and pricey.

quiet little spot
Quiet little spot within walking distance of Restaurants and shops in the center of town. 10/10 Would recommend if you just need an affordable place to sleep. Not usually my cup of tea having a door directly to the outside, but when I brought up my concern to the front desk, the property manager was there within seconds to add 3” screws to the strike plate on the door, giving us much needed peace of mind. The staff were friendly and courteous. There were several amenities at the hotel right next door available to us. Pool/hot tub/sauna , WiFi, coffee/breakfast etc.

The room was clean,but dreary.It had a musty, odd odor, that never let up. I was very pleased though that the bathroom had been newly remodeled.It was the last room in town that was available, otherwise I would not have rented it.

There was highway 61 road construction right outside the front entrance. I did not hear it, as my room faced the lake. Clean, nice room for the money, but no air, only a ceiling fan and very uncomfortable for sleeping ( weather was muggy)

Rundown motel room. Wallpaper peeling off the walls, trim coming off, old dusty spiderwebs in corners. At $30 a night, I wouldn't have cared, but the price they get for the room all season they should make some upgrades. The nice part is you get to use the Aspen Lodge pool/hot tub and have breakfast in their lobby.

We were very disappointed that this is a separate building from the "parent" lodge. Not apparent on the reservation site. Remove the weeds along the sidewalk. Clean but very small. Spruceglen could not control the road construction, but noisy.

Complete dump, only stay if you need to sleep for cheap on way to BWCA, but bring/ use a sleeping bag. The front desk person was kind enough to set us up at another property owned by the same group in town and change our reservation.

Todd-we are sorry you were unhappy with the accommodations at Spruceglen. The property, is indeed, old; but it is clean and provides economical lodging for some travelers coming to Grand Marais.

Stay was fine, room very ordinary. Pool and hot tub were great, but a short walk outside was required to get there.

Original "Motel"/Clean/Friendly Fred
This is an original motel where your park outside your door. It is an old motel but very very clean. Fred at the front desk was the best. Friendly and full of information. Would stay here again.

They try, but....
The positive is that guests get to enjoy all the amenities of the hotel next door and the people there were very friendly.. Another positive is the comfortable king bed. The negative is that it is just plain old. Condition of bathroom (old, musty smelling shower curtain), size of room, condition of sitting chairs, and old tube TVs - it’s just old, and it’s hard to keep a really old, tired motel feeling fresh. But - we slept comfortably and had a great time in Grand Marais, so no worries, but next time I would choose a more modern hotel and pay extra.

It is an old building and the beds were very uncomfortable. No extra pillows or blankets were available. It was very clean and the host was very pleasant and helpful. Would not stay here or recommend this place.
