Beautiful location⊠great beach and home. There is a reef you can snorkel right off the beach from this property. This is on the sunrise side of the island, we enjoyed walks every morning. Overall a great choice in Governorâs Harbor.
The house was beautiful with perfect location on the beach and close to town and several great restaurants. The beach was very quiet and it felt like a private beach. Stunning views. The house fit us all comfortably and the outdoor space was amazing with some shade, some sun and lots of places to hang out. We will definitely be back! Thank you for a great week!
Very nice house, beach, pool, views. The only thing Iâd add is bring your own music as thereâs no way to have it outside on the deck or pool area. The house has a lot of things ( individual AC units, lots of fans ) that arenât easy to figure out, it would be nice if the housekeeper went through it with us to save time and frustration. Owner and manager are very nice.
The house was clean, comfortable, and spacious enough for our family of 12. It is in the perfect location over looking the ocean with a soft pale pink sand beach just down the steps. We were near to many restaurants in Governor's Harbor, but the house also had everything we needed to make our own meals. What really put our stay over the top was the wonderful care taker of the house Sherri. She not only made us a fantastic seafood dinner, but she was prompt with helping us with recommendations for the island. She even helped me learn more about my family from the island. This made our stay exceptional. I highly recommend staying here, and we would stay here again in a heartbeat.
Sandy Hill is a perfect house for large families and groups. The house is wonderfully designed with separate pods of bedrooms and bathrooms, in addition to a large master bedroom en suite upstairs. And every bedroom has a spectacular view of the ocean, which makes every sunrise worth waking up to experience. The salt water infinity pool is incredible and the private beach is only steps away from the house, so kayaking and snorkeling can be done directly off the beach depending on the wind and waves each day. The small town of Governorâs Harbor is only a short car drive away, but critical for dining and grocery options. The Leon Levy Preserve is well worth the price of admission, just be sure to have appropriate shoes for the hike. Many of the islandâs major attractions are a long car drive from Sandy Hillâs central island location. Itâs well worth the trip to visit the Sapphire Blue Hole, the Glass Window, and the Queenâs bath. Overall, Sandy Hill exceeded our expectations and we highly recommend it for travelers looking for a relaxing vacation with a heavenly view!
This was our 8th visit to Eleuthera and this was our favorite rental property. The house was perfect; furnished with everything you would need, nicely and comfortably decorated and it was in the perfect location; close to everything and the most beautiful beach. I highly recommend this property and can't wait to come back!!
We were a family of 14 and this property fit all our needs - awesome view, pristine beach to yourself, nicely decorated, great kitchen, walk to beach bar.
This home is truly as lovely as others have said. Since they've already said that, I'll fill in some details about questions we had prior to leaving home.
We had 14 in our family, six school-age kids, eight adults. We followed Matt's suggestion that we ask The Market Place grocery store (like an old-time IGA and 45 minutes away) to pre-stock a few days of food for us. The online process is very simple. The store concierge will call you with any questions she has about your order. In the comment section, you can request things you don't see on the website. They might have them. Pre-stocking the food was a huge help! We arrived hungry late in the day. Kids didn't want to travel one more minute. They needed to play/swim, not sit in restaurant chairs.
The house has a filled spice rack and has soap/tissue in all the bathrooms. Bring your own shampoo/conditioner. You may --may!-- also find some other helpful "left-behinds" like baggies, foil, cooking oil, sugar, laundry soap, and sunscreen/bug spray. We used up many of the odd ends of bug spray, then left one of our own.
For folks with food allergies/sensitivities: Market Place and Burrows (the tiny local grocery store) both carry gluten-free pasta. Neither has GF waffles or baked products. Neither had any nut butters besides peanut. Both had non-dairy "milks" (almond/soy).
The welcome materials say it's safe to drink the water if you're staying in a house on the municipal water line, but doesn't say if Sandy Hills is on the line. The blue pipes in the front yard indicate that it is on the municipal water line and the owner confirmed it for us. So we stopped cooking with bottled water and used the ice the freezer makes.
There are classic games (like bingo), cards, and a puzzle or two in the ottoman.
There are a few life jackets and some snorkel gear in the bin on the deck. More can be rented/purchased in town. Bring your water shoes. The local prices for those are very high.
Overall-Wonderful!
Sandy Hill was the perfect vacation spot for our family of 12 - ages 11-76. The house was wonderful and the beach, by far, the prettiest weâve ever seen. We all enjoyed the kayaks, the pool, the snorkeling and the view. Tippyâs, with great Bahamian food and music, was our favorite dining spot and only a few minutes walk from the house. Captain Clayton with Capt. Kid and Sons provided memories of a lifetime when we swam with the pigs, snorkeled over an old ship ruin, took pictures on an amazingly huge sandbar, found red starfish and more. Brenda and Patrick Demeritte were our in-house chefs one night for a big birthday celebration and fried up, among other things, the best conch fritters on the island. Their son, Andrew Demeritte, was our guide to feed/swim with the fish at Rock Sound, the Boiling Hole Cave and Lighthouse Beach. Jeremy, with Cadet Rental Cars, was the first to greet us at the airport and the last to say goodbye - with a hug - on what we all agree was an epic vacation! Thank you Matt Simon and Denise Wilkes for making it all possible.
One word of advice - bring food from home, especially meat and snacks. Our three families each packed one of our allowed suitcases with snacks and frozen meat. You will not regret doing the same.
We had a great time at Sandy Hill. The location is fantastic-close to town and restaurants. The house is well outfitted. The kitchen has everything you need- the ACâs worked perfectly, the pool was clean with lots of beach towels. The house is very close to the beach. You can hear the ocean even over the ac! There are beach chairs and kayaks. We had a problem with one of the showers and they sent a man out to fix it promptly. We will stay here again!
This is a gorgeous luxurious property. We were an extended family of 11(9 months- 68 yrs) and it provided the best balance of community and privacy for all. The property was well appointed, and the kitchen was well stocked, and easy to cook in. The staff was responsive to our needs, and very accommodating.
The island correctly boasts fabulous beaches and privacy. if we saw 10 people (not us) for the entire week on our glorious beach- I would be exaggerating. The pool was so great for the kids, and the view was unsurpassed.
I am absolutely blown away by this home and the beach it sits on. The view at the front door through the house, before you even enter, is amazing. The home had everything you could possibly need. Very well stocked. Having the different bedroom pods was a highlight. It provided for a quiet space away from the main living area for those that needed a rest. One of my favorite things to do was to enjoy my coffee off the bedroom patio in the morning. No one could see me and I loved the privacy, peace, and quiet. The home is beautiful! Love the wood beams and shiplap! Pictures do not do the home justice! The pool and deck area was amazing and the beach was even better. There was hardly anyone on the beach and the water was beautiful, not to mention the pink sand. We tried to venture out to explore the island, as this was our first trip to Eleuthera. It was very difficult leaving such a perfect spot to begin with. The perfect beach is right out your door!!! Needless to say, we went out one day and the rest was spent relaxing at Sandy Beach House! We had no issues whatsoever with the home, but help was just a phone call away if needed. We made the run to the Banks Road Deli each morning for the wonderful pastries. Brenda and Patrick Demerrite cooked for us two nights. Very good and I highly recommend! Nicest people! The Friday night fish fry in Governor's Harbor is a must too! Sandy Hill sets the bar high for people visiting Eleuthera for the first time. I have no desire to look elsewhere and am looking forward to one day visiting again, as this has been my most favorite vacation yet! Thank you Denise, Simon, Tara, Howard, Brenda, and Patrick for such a dream vacation!
Just returned from a week stay at this beautiful home with our family. From the moment we arrived (A little early) we were greeted with open arms. The home is even better than described and spotless, the view from every room is spectacular but from the the deck and pool can not truly be captured in photos.
It is fully equipped with everything a family could need to feel at home. Having Howard available and so knowledgeable of the home and Island was priceless. We did some sightseeing of the island to several beaches and loved them all especially Ten Bay Beach but rushed home every evening to catch a few hours by the pool.
Would highly recommend this home for couples, families and extended families.
Our best visit yet to Eleuthera, especially Governor's Harbour area! Just spent a week at Sandy Hill Beach House with our core work team & their spouses - 1st time for all of them & they were all blown away with the house itself & the views. Everything was wonderful (!!!!) at Sandy Hill. Perfect location, especially that beach! The views of the beach and water from the house & deck are simply not adequately captured by website photos - stunning, especially as the sun changed it's location in the sky throughout the day. We did thoroughly enjoy 2 separate day trips - one to Harbour Island & another to Lighthouse Beach, but always looked forward to our return to Sandy Hill. Toughest choice throughout days we didn't visit elsewhere was, âpool or beach?â Hahaha! Short walk down our gorgeous beach to Tippy's (could actually see their location a distance from the house) & a couple minute pleasant drive to Banks Road Deli each morning for divine baked goods & some other items. A few minutes driving & we were in Governor's Harbour proper. (Our Nissan X-Trail rentals from Roderick Pinder/Office General our best rentals so far - totally handled the trip to Lighthouse Beach.) We lacked for nothing - thoughtful & attractive furnishings, well-stocked kitchen to cook in, very comfortable bedding, all well kept & clean, as was the outside pool/deck area. The privacy provided for all by the separate zones the house was designed with really fit the bill, even with the master bdrm over the living room was still quiet in master. Howard was very accommodating & gracious in regards to our arrival & quick to respond when we needed help with a sliding screen door that was sticking a little - fixed with WD40 in a jiffy! We are already talking about returning there with our team again. And a shout out to Matthew Simon & his assistant, Tara, for providing such thorough customer service regarding rental arrangements, and their follow-up, and so easy to work with them. We returned home from this trip feeling very refreshed & blessed.
