Historic Sterchi Loft on Gay St

10/10 Excellent

"This loft is perfect for a stay in Knoxville. Great location, close to may restaurants, bars, etc. Also very walkable to UTK. The loft has everything you need, including parking (included) just a short block away. The unit is very quiet and clean. It has large windows and a great view of the sunrise making it very light and open inside. Beds are comfortable and bathroom good size and clean. Communication was top notch. A very enjoyable stay that I would recommend to others."

"The good - Conveniently located downtown for eats/drinks and check-in via codes was easy. The bad - At night time, some folks that were squatting right outside the main entrance/door (and charging their phones) which did not feel very safe since this room is the first one through the main door. Upon entry to the building, there was a legit pile of cleaning supplies, tower fan, paper towels, etc. in 3x large tote bags completely blocking the door. My friend had already checked in, but I got in late and was confused if this was the actual place or a janitorial closet (they thought it was my stuff so did not move). I alerted the management company, sent a photo twice, and communicated the desire to get this moved. They were apologetic but ultimately did nothing during our stay so we just left everything as-is in front of the door (which was honestly a fire hazard)."

"This unit is in a great location. Unfortunately I can’t speak to any other aspect of the property because the host cancelled our reservation the day after we were supposed to check in. The electronic keypad was not working when we arrived. After an hour on the phone with their customer service team (host’s team, not VRBO) we were told they couldn’t help us that night but they had a locksmith scheduled to come in the morning. They told us to get a hotel which they would reimburse us for. The following day I called many times throughout the day for updates and kept being told they were doing everything they could to rectify the issue. At 5pm they cancelled our reservation and told us thy couldn’t help us but would refund our money. I find it very unlikely that a locksmith was not available nope the door, or that the host (who is local) didn’t have an actual key he could use to open the door. I believe they may have rebooked the unit for a higher fee. This was graduation weekend and we had family with us which is why we reserved a 3BR. VRBO Care is supposed to reimburse us for our hotel expense but we haven’t submitted for that yet. Just be weary if you are booking for a high demand time."
