The Mermaid House is located on the northern tip of South Hutchison Island and is 7 minute walk to the beach.

Your suite has a great swing where you can relax and listen to the ocean sing. During a full moon the swing is in a perfect position and elevation to watch the moon come out of the ocean!! This unique styled property has a large, private, saltwater pool with a jacuzzi. When you are done swimming our tiki hut, with its own bar area, is next to the pool and a great place to eat, talk and enjoy a cocktail or two.

The Mermaid House has a very comfy king bed, a fully equipped kitchen, WiFi, TV, beach chairs, pool toys, and a barbecues grill just to mention a few. Please see complete list of our amenities and encourage you to review our reviews.

What's nearby: The northern tip of South Hutchison Island is where the Indian River flows into the Atlantic Ocean. Therefore you have the choice of fishing or swimming from the shores of the Indian River, which has it own white sand beach, or dropping your fishing line into the Atlantic Ocean. Literally, you can have one fishing line in the Indian River and 8 feet away your other fishing line is in the Atlantic Ocean. Needless to say we have great fishing and outstanding seafood.

Speaking of food, we are known for our boutique restaurants ranging from Latin, French, Fusion, Asian, Seafood to Food Trucks offering mouth watering barbecue to Creole delights. We have several boutique taverns, where you can enjoy a happy hour with gourmet bites while listening to live music and of course great water views.

Within a 4 mile radius we have fishing charters available, jet ski rentals, small sailing boat rentals and lessons are also available. Currently there is a free Uber service offered by City of Fort Pierce and the Mermaid House is in their area of service. In your suite you will find additional information covering the topics above.

If you are a walker this is the place. You can walk either along the beach or the main strip where many of us like to walk in the morning or evening hours. If you choose the main strip you will pass , the Florida Oceanic Museum, the St Lucie County Aquarium, the National Navy Seals Museum, the Smithsonian Marine Station on the Island, The Indian River beach park and a causeway overpass bridge that offers an excellent view of the Indian River.

Beach house apartment

Very nice, excellent location. Would rate a perfect five stars but for two things. The hot tub was not hot (maybe call it a jacuzzi and let visitors know it's not hot). If there is a way to make it hot, that was not clear in the instructions to press button. The lack of a washer dryer is the other reason. No one wants to go to a laundrymat on vacation. Even if it's a nice family owned nearby laundrymat. Otherwise, The Mermaid House is lovely and provided everything we wanted.

Great Stay

The description was exactly what it is. There is a little road noise, but at night you could hear the ocean. The house is spacious, clean, and is a great deal. The location is just about a five to ten minute walk from places to eat Beaches are beautiful and quiet. This is not a touristy place. There is plenty to do all around Ft. Pierce, and this house is ideal to stay in and use it as a hub. Definitely a great place to stay right off the beach.

Great Stay!

Loved this property! This was our first experience with a non hotel property and we were blown away! Communication was amazing. Host was helpful and attentive to our stay. Property was very clean and spacious. Did not use the pool as we are ocean lovers but the beach. Is literally across the street! Loved the beach chairs that.were provided. We give it a 10 and will book again without hesitation. Thank you for a great week!

The place was amazing! The host was fabulous! Check in process was rated a 4/5 bc I didn’t know how it all went, as this is my first time renting and I was panicking and was trying to contact the host and VRBO about access to the property. It had been a long 16 hour drive and I was ‘antsy’. But once on the property-EVERYTHING was wonderful.

Just what we wanted. Very roomy and great layout. Excellent communication and experience for first time using VRBO. Nice outdoor area, wish we utilized more. Close and easy access to public beach, just have to cross A1A and a block up the road.

Location, Location, Location.

Prime location for a restful beach getaway. Apartment is across the street from the beach and also includes a pool when you want a private dip. Equipped with all you need for the beach and for it to feel like home. Loved my stay and I’m already planning my next visit. Kevin was a great host. You won’t regret choosing the Mermaid house.

Nice first visit to Fort Pierce

This was our first time on the island. The location to the beach was fantastic. Be aware this is the unit on the second floor so you have to use the steps all the time. The first floor is not part of this home. There really isn’ta whole lot around the island to “do” but all the restaurants were great with no waiting. Not a big deal, we only go for the beaches which were nearly empty and very clean. The pool was a good size for the 4 of us. Generally it was a very clean place though not very “beachy” if you want that vibe (considering it’s called the “mermaid house”) . I do wish the main bedroom had a TV and that it had a washer and dryer (our fault for not paying attention to that detail) also, can they should consider stocking the kitchen with more kid, friendly, durable dishware. We like using plastic cups and plates if we are taking lunch down by the pool or whatever. It could be stocked with a few more items. Overall, nice place I would encourage them to do a little maintenance, updates, painting, around the property and it could be five stars include all around! Good stay though

Wonderful stay!

Excellent choice for Hutchinson Island! Pool and outdoor area was perfect. Very short walk to the beach. House was clean and comfortable. Restaurants and jetty within a few minutes drive.

Great week!

We had a blast swimming in the pool and going to the beach to enjoy the ocean. The rental was perfect for our needs and allowed us to relax and enjoy a week in the sun. We'd definitely rent here again! Fort Pierce had everything we needed for an amazing getaway - restaurants, shopping, beaches, sightseeing, etc.
