High Tail Lodge puts you in a brand-new mountain-modern home on a private, wooded lot outside Fairplay at 10,430 ft, about 23 mi from Breckenridge, with a doggie door to its own dog pen, Starlink Wi-Fi, and a propane fire table on a deck overlooking the trees.

The Space
Everything here is new: the appliances, the furniture, the finishes. You come in through a mudroom entry built for mountain trips, with a bench, a big coat rack and a full-size stacked washer and dryer, plus a doggie door that lets your dog step out to a private pen on their own schedule. The main floor opens into a living room with an oversized leather couch, an accent chair, a large mounted TV and an electric fireplace, beside a kitchen with stainless appliances, an electric range, dishwasher, disposal and a large refrigerator. Eat at the dining table or pull up a stool at the kitchen bar. Upstairs, an open loft bedroom with a king bed, a desk and a reading nook looks down over the main floor, and under the eave sits a hidden kids' nook with toys, a lounge corner and its own small TV. Starlink runs the Wi-Fi throughout.

Bringing the Dog
High Tail was set up with dogs in mind. The doggie door off the mudroom opens to a private pen, so early mornings and late nights don't call for a leash and a headlamp. The washer and dryer sit right at the entry for muddy towels, and hiking paths wind through the woods around the property. Pets must be approved in advance, and there is a $50 fee per pet.

Outside
The elevated deck looks straight into dense forest. Gather around the propane fire table in the evening, take the high-top with your morning coffee, and fire up the propane grill for dinner. Hiking paths around the property are yours to explore; conditions vary by season.

* The home sits at about 10,430 ft. Altitude and mountain weather are real factors; plan accordingly.
* A four-wheel-drive vehicle with snow tires or chains is required November through May. Weather here changes fast and can make roads difficult.
* This is a rural, high alpine setting, so wildlife, insects and the occasional rodent come with the territory. Please don't leave dogs in the pen unattended.
* The home runs on well water, which can vary in taste, smell and mineral content with the season.
* Exterior cameras monitor the front and back entry doors. There are no cameras inside the home.
* Hiking paths around the property are used at your own risk; conditions vary by season.
* Pets must be approved before arrival. The $50 per-pet fee is not included in the quoted rate and is charged after booking or on arrival day.
