BAD EXPERIENCE
Bad experience with this hotel. We booked 5 rooms and everything was pais but unfortunately the hate only found 3 rooms and we had to pay for 1 more accommodation. 3 weeks later and after we wrote to HOTEL.COM the hotel did not refund us for the room paid and we lost one night with one room

Bon hôtel mais problème à l'enregistrement
Hôtel récent situé dans une zone commerciale et industrielle d'une ville minière. Pas d'attrait touristique mais à proximité de Joburg et très grand centre commercial voisin. L'hôtel, visiblement récemment inscrit au programme Hôtels.com tenait à nous faire payer la nuit une deuxième fois. Il a fallu plusieurs heures de négociation et l'intervention efficace du service client du site pour que le malentendu soit levé.

Good but no working airconditioner- in winter!
All good. Actually a superior hotel measured against other rural town hotels. I could rate it with some of the best. BUT, the airconditioner was not working in the winter! What upset me, was that there was no effort made to accommodate us with a discount. Even when they wanted to downgrade us to a smaller room, it would be without a fee reduction. Not a free cup of coffee or free breakfast offer to compensate. Nothing. That ruined it for me.

Checking in took over 30 minutes because I made an online booking. The best thing about my stay was the big and comfortable bed. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom, I had to use my own pocket tissues - room service was no where to be found, the phone just rang when calling room service and reception. The bathroom was not clean. Someone else would have thought there was no hot water - I left the shower running for about 20 minutes until the water was warm, still no room service or reception to advise or help.

Hotels.com sends POP late resulting in 30min wait
had to wait over 30 minutes to check in as the person at reception hadn't received confirmation from Hotels.com that the room had already been paid online. Only after about 30 minutes did the hotel receive proof of payment confirmation. Pretty annoying. Apart from that, the stay was fine.

Convenient for a one-night stopover when travelling between JHB and Mbombela. Loud on a friday night bc drink patrons of the bar were throwing bottles. There were many broken beer bottles in the parking lot in the morning. Be sure to park closer to the security gate/further from the restaurant to avoid the risk of broken glass in your tiresmm.

An unpleasant experience this time around
Frequent guest at this hotel but this time there were too many inconveniences. The door was stiff, required much effort to open, room seemed to be under construction, few glitches in the wall, The television remote was completelying faulty. Wasn't satisfied this time

Overall the hotel was very nice. Unfortunately with a window that didn't close properly and a lack of sound insulation the room was very noisy with road and area noise. Free Wifi is a fantastic value add, unfortunately it didn't really work which made it pointless.

The hotel room was comfortable and spacious. No bottled water provided and we were unsure of the safety of the tap water. Also, the shower in the nice big bathroom was small and the shower head low for a tall person.

Safe and secure.
You gotta eat the buffet breakfast and dinner! Safe parking with boom gate no problem here. Rooms are great , beds comfortable. Good value would stay again.

Semi-Luxurious hotel with 3 big faults
Protea Hotel Highveld is a semi-luxurious hotel. The hotel is divided in 2 parts. The main part is where the reception is, however they claim it is the noisier section, but I must admit I heard nothing. The second section is across the parking area which is only rooms and they claim to have less noise. The positives are the room is good; quality of furniture and bedding is very good. Very good desk with plug on desk for businessman. All rooms are air conditioned. They have a large bathrooms but only a shower, toilet and a small basin with almost no shelf space. Only about 50% of the room is being used and the other 50% is just open space. Supper they tend to push you towards carvery, however you can insist on ala carte. The 3 big faults for me is a) there is no lift and many stairways, not suitable for the elderly or disables unless you insist on a ground floor room ahead of time. B) With all the space in the bathroom, more shelf space could be fitted to put your toiletries on. C) my biggest gripe is there is not door between the bathroom and the bedroom. You can lie in bed and watch your partner go to the toilet. If I was not travelling alone, this alone would have been a reason to checkout.

What an excellent find! I was pleasantly surprised by everything, from the hospitality, the location, the settings and the food. Best place to stay in the city, period!!
