Southwold is described as the jewel of Suffolk's Heritage Coast, and it does not disappoint.
With its famous pier, lighthouse and beach huts, Southwold is certainly one of the most popular resorts in East Anglia.
Granted a Royal Charter back in 1489 by Henry VII, Southwold has a fascinating history and many links with the past can still be seen all over the town.
The centre piece is the magnificent church, with its 100 foot tower and dedicated to the last king of East Anglia, St Edmund. Nearby, the lighthouse, also 100 feet tall, has given safe passage to sailors and fishermen since 1890.
The pier and its history are closely connected to that of Southwold. Its original use was, of course, practical – it was a landing stage for the steamships which arrived from London Bridge.

« Had a great time in The Little House, perfect location for me and my dog. The sandy/grassy area before the beach is perfect for an active canine, and beyond the beach stretches as far as the eye can see in either direction. I did think the accommodation had wifi (an oversight on my part), but that wasn't a big problem. Great TV with Freeview - tho there is a knack to getting the handset the work - you need to know where to aim it! If I went again I would take a head torch and my dog's flashing...

Had difficulty finding it, but then realised we had to turn left into road after going around the only lodge on the right and count down from there, then drove back out onto main access road to find parking space next to the caravan. « The apartment enjoys a central location in the lovely quaint coastal town of Southwold. A very comfortable, spacious flat with plenty of shops and places to eat on your doorstep. The bedrooms are on a slightly lower level to the living room and kitchen area and would benefit from some sort of coloured strip to draw your attention to this as the flooring is all one uniform colour. « What a lovely place! When we walked in the door, the lamps and fire were lit, soft music playing and Prosecco, milk and juice in the fridge. We instantly felt relaxed and welcome. We spent two weeks here in February, and whilst it was cold outside, the lodge itself was warm and cosy - to the extent that we spent much of our time indoors relaxing when not on the beach with the dog.
