The lighthouse, established in 1749 at Beavertail Point, was the granddaddy of all Rhode Island lighthouses and only the third one—after Boston Harbor and Nantucket’s Brant Point—in the American colonies.
Today is a museum that features a collection of information, artifacts, and conversation about the history and site of the third-oldest lighthouse in North America.
The lighthouse is located in Beavertail State Park at the end of Beavertail Road, at the southern tip of Conanicut Island. There is free parking. The grounds are open to the public.

« Leah was a wonderful host. We arrived during snowy weather. Leah proactively sent us a picture detailing parking options. She also made herself readily available during our visit. The house is well appointed with kitchen supplies, baby items, games and was quite comfortable for our family of five. « Appartement très bien situé, possibilité de visiter la ville à pied. 2 chambres. Celle qui est sur la photo est très bien. La 2ème mérite d'être mieux aménagée. Elle est petite. Pas possible d'y déposer sa valise. Pas de décoration. pas de table de nuit ni de lampe de chevet par manque de place. il faudrait réfléchir à poser une tablette au dessus de la tête de lit. Le seul miroir a du être posé par un géant ! je mesure 1,60m et il m'a fallu me mettre sur la pointe des pieds pour voir le haut...

"Hôtel d étape, un peu éloigné des attractions ce qui peut être un problème car les parkings sont payants à Newport. Pas de restaurants alentour le plus proche est un Domino’s à 290m. La chambre est vaste, propre et équipée d’ un frigo et d’ un micro onde. Salle de bain « à l américaine » c est a dire un pommeau de douche au dessus d une baignoire , pas de flexible. Pression et chaleur excellentes. Le petit déjeuner en buffet inclus est une rigolade, il n y a visiblement pas de cuisine donc tout est en sachet, que des sucreries et des hamburgers cahoutchouteux, même pas de pain et beurre. Le personnel est agréable et a l écoute."
