Confirmation of property threw me off
We were unable to access the location after arriving with 2 teens who were on spring break ! I’m still waiting for my FULL refund to know if I will receive it in total. What I don’t understand is I had several emails stating that my booking was confirmed and itinerary sent to me before arriving. I thought I was good to go for the 4 nights of spring break /and then last minute had to tell the teen girls so sorry this is not gonna happen. Also after looking around property I could not see any hot tub that was listed . It looked to me that they were not ready to open this house for the season. It is across the street from the lake/not on the lake like in the photo’s . This was very unfortunate but a blessing at the same time . Not worth the money for a 4 night stay in this area . I will admit my assuming that the property was secure after the first installment was my fault and assuming that the property was secured with the confirmation that I did receive and not reaching out to the host the day of or the day before. Good luck !

Weekend getaway
The house was a perfect place to stay for the weekend. We were able to locate it quickly and it was a short distance to Baroda/St. Joseph wineries. The house was very clean, dishes provided, fire wood, and ample room for 6 adults. We will be back.

We decided on VRBO because of other visits it was easier. But this stay we got a lashing via text about what not to do before we even got there. The sulphur smell was overwhelming. There were notes everywhere. Just didn't feel comfortable. Plus we had to pay for three nights whether we were there or not. No lake view because of brush.

Dear Donata, We are so sorry you did not have a 5 star stay. Yes we do give our guests a common courtesy statement. Due to guests that do not follow any of our very simple, considerate check out instructions like you and your family. We only ask you take your garbage out and you strip your beds of their sheets and blankets. I always thought that this was the best way for all of our guests to know that the people stripped their sheets before them, so that they absolutely positively knew that all of our bedding was laundered between every guest. We have well water, so there is a sulfur smell, because the well is brand new less than a year old we have a working operable water softener which is all you can do with well water. We’re very sorry that we asked you for common courtesy. Hotel stays would probably be best for you and your guests. Kind regards, Dianna

Great beach vacation
This property was conveniently located across the street from a nice beach that we enjoyed almost every day. It is close to Coloma which offered a nice movie theater and a nice restaurant. It is also close to wineries and breweries in the area. It was perfect for our stay with our Son and his family.

This is an old and foul smelling house. The sulfur and mold could only be rivaled by the bad and cheap remodeling. We booked 3 night and stayed 2 concerned about my kids health. Hindsight 20/20, i should have noticed the little signs with the reviews… The living room being split in 2 rooms, 1 smaller room inside of a bigger one and no access to the front porch. You cannot watch the tv as a group, as it is too far and not enough space. If you have breathing or sensitivities/allergies this is not for you. Do yourself a favor and book a hotel. It is cheaper and cleaner.

Dear Diana, For anyone reading this was an isolated incident who was struggling because she was charged for not following simple checkout instructions. Please read our other 82 reviews.I’m so sorry you did not have a 5star stay. Our home is the cleanest home you will ever stay at. Please read THE OTHER 82 reviews. Everyone mentions how clean my house is. I do not have a service I do it myself and wipe every surface , door knob, light fixture. The exaggeration of your sulfur smelling statement is ridiculous. We have a well all home close to the lake have a well. Than your statement of my living room I do not understand. Because the game room is OFF THE LIVING ROOM AREA. If you read instructions the key to open the front door is on the trim above the door. You didn’t read because you did not do the simple check out requests of stripping sheets and emptying garbage. I’ve noted to ban any other reservation from you. Your the guests us owner regret sharing our property with. Hope you had safe travels home. Kind regards, Dianna

We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your establishment. The owner was friendly, easily accessible and accommodating. They even provided games for us to play should the weather not cooperate for outside and/or beach time. The only thing I could really critique would be the property listing itself, which indicates there is a loft area. In all reality, the "loft area" is actually a small closet at the top of the stairs with no windows and a single mattress on the floor. This wasn't a problem for our group, as there were enough actual beds/bedrooms to accommodate our party, but I could see how this could possibly be a problem for future guests. Other than that, the place was as advertised, clean, and fun to stay in.

Clean and comfortable in a great location!
We really enjoyed staying at this property and being able to walk across the street to the beach! This house is very clean and comfortable and perfect for a family with kids…ours enjoyed the DVD player in the bedroom. The whirlpool tub, water cooler, beach chairs, towels and toys were nice extras. Kitchen is well stocked. The owner is prompt in responding to messages and was very accommodating when we had to make a change to our reservation. A great place to stay!

Blue shutter beach house family getaway
Pros: super clean property, stocked with all kitchen needs, room air conditioners, fans in every area, towels and bed sheets aplenty. Fire pit and gas grill for use of customers, great location across from public Lake Michigan beach, plenty of parking. Cons: property on a noisy road ( air conditioners covered the sound), furniture in living room area and washer/dryer were a bit past their prime, water smelled strongly of sulphur and filtered water dispenser for drinking ran out the second day (bottled water strongly encouraged for future guests). Be careful of uneven concrete in walkway by entrance door. All in all a clean but bit worn property.

Dear Katrina, Thank you for your pro kind words. The washer and dryer are just an extra feature most people DONT do laundry on vacation. The dryer is 1 year old, as a matter of fact I haven’t even taken off all the wrap. The washer is older but old Betsy washes cloths better than my machine at home. The house is on a well, this close to the lake all homes have to be on a well. We have a new water softener that is always maintained and filled with salt. You had a absolute filled 5 gallon water put in right before I left. So yes that’s all you get not many other VRBO provide a water machine. Of course our price is one of the best in the area. Saint Joseph, MI Fun
The rental property was very quaint, spacious inside/outside, and was near all locations our family explored while in Michigan. The property owner is very responsive, helpful and super enjoyable to work with! The only hiccup which I know the owner has noted they worked on and wish we would have known in advance is the sewer (egg) smell from the water running. This never went away no matter where the water was running - kitchen sink, bathroom sink/shower, dishwasher and wash machine.

Dear Shannon, Thank you for the kind words. Once again I will say that we have well water. It is a sulfur smell from the new well we had dug in March. We have a water softener, with a well that is all you can do. You must have a VERY sensitive palette because we haven’t had it mentioned. This close to the lake everyone is on a well. Spectacular stay
We had the luxury of being able to stay at this house for 3 days and each day was amazing. With a quick walk across the street is a beach, board games for the late nights, and a kitchen fully loaded with almost everything you need for cooking. Highly recommend to anyone because of the location and price.

Perfect spot for our annual girls' trip
This property was perfect for our annual girls' trip. All the bedrooms are upstairs and comfortably fit the six of us. There was plenty of comfortable seating for all of us inside and outside. The property sits back from a highway which can get a little busy, but eventually gets quieter as the night goes on. The kitchen was adequately stocked including some basic condiments which is always appreciated. Some folks in our group are not familiar with well water and had some smell sensitivity, but the property has a water cooler for drinking and cooking. If your group drinks a lot of water, you probably want to bring extra bottled water. We loved walking across the highway to get easy access to a clean, beautiful beach. Communication with the host was easy and we appreciated her flexibility with check in and check out.

Great location
The location was perfect across from the water (beach not as busy as those in surrounding area); however need to be able to walk up and down about 100 steps to get there. And although advertised for sleeping 9 people, only 2 bedrooms with bigger beds and 1 room with 3 full size (2 were bunks), and then another random full on the floor in a nook in the hallway. Also - water smelled AWFUL! Not the property owner's fault, but had to go out and buy all drinking water and we all had to plug our noses when taking showers. Otherwise, very nice home with many things provided (including DVDs, games, floats and condiments in the fridge!)

We stayed here for my sister's bachelorette weekend and it was wonderful! The owner is FANTSTIC to work with, and the property and location were great for a weekend at the beach and the local winery tour. Highly recommend!

This is a very comfortable house, perfect for 3 adult couples. The 2 full bathrooms are updated. The kitchen has everything needed to prepare meals. The AC works great; it also serves to obscure the street noise from M63. We enjoyed both the outside deck and the screened-in porch. You do need to cross the highway to get to the beach, but the beach is very nice and is swimmable.

We were in town for my nieces wedding and had a great time here. The location was perfect right across from park and beach and a short distance to the wedding ceremony. The beds were very comfortable with plenty of room for 8-10 people. If we are back to this part of Michigan again I will definitely check on the availability of this home.

Great Access to the Beach
Great access to the beach with the park right across the main road from it. Was only about 15 minutes to get to both South Haven and St. Joseph. Had a great amount of space on the first level for us to hang out together. Beds were comfortable and clean. Nice porch to sit out on in the evenings. Overall nice property. Only have 3 issues to bring up. 1. It wasn’t really clear was none of the bedrooms were on the 1st floor for my 74 year old mother who uses a cane and the steps have a strange turn as you go up them. The layout of the property would be helpful to know for future elderly renters. 2. The water smelled like rotten eggs any time we turned it on, especially when taking a hot shower. Not sure if it’s well water or what. 3. Lastly, we left some food on the counter top and we’re assuming it was a mouse that nibbled at some of the food and left some droppings in the container the food was in. May want to set some traps out. Thanks for the time and the great communication with us during the checkin and checkout processes especially.

Dear Ronald, Thank you so much for your 5 star review. I would like to respond to your 3 points. #1 On the VRBO website under “house details” it very clearly tells all of our guests the entire 1 st floor, and 2nd floor configuration. I’m sorry you did not find it on the website. #2 We had an eighty year old well so we chose to have a new well dug in March 2022. They said the smell would dissipate in 4/6 months. There is NO CITY water provided this close to Lake Michigan everyone is on a well. We did buy a water softener and basically with a well that is all you can do. #3 We have never had any mice and I pride myself on the cleanliness of our home. I will definitely call the exterminator. My family and our friends enjoyed our short trip to Lake Michigan. We really enjoyed that we were just a short walk from the beach. I like that I had access to the homeowner's cellphone, and I was able to text her with questions during our stay. The house smelled clean upon arrival. It was a welcoming scent. I am not a review giver, but I do use other reviews to make decisions. We would stay here again, and I recommend this house to anyone who is looking for somewhere close to the beach without being in a town.

We had a wonderful trip. My girls (5 and 6) enjoyed the bunk beds and the hideout room (as they liked to call it). The screened in porch was lovely in the morning and evenings. The beds were super comfy. My daughter enjoyed all the “soft blankets” in the beds. The walk to the beach was very easy…literally right across the street. Even though it was a public beach, it felt like a private beach. It was lovely are hardly ever really crowded.

Great place for 2 families to enjoy Lake Michigan. Beach access right across the street (pretty steep stairs, definitely not ADA, but easy to navigate even with kids and gear in tow). Close to a lot of great beaches. Good yard and deck for chill time, plenty of kitchen and sleeping spaces.

Great getaway
This house is cute and clean and pretty easy to get to. It’s not on the water like I thought but it’s right across the street and down a million steps. But you can hear the waves from the front porch so that was cool. The house itself was very clean and very detailed. The kitchen has just about everything you need. You have to bring your own toilet paper I didn’t know that until I got there but it wasn’t a big deal because there is a dollar general right down the street. The beds were super comfy and clean. The owner was very responsive and helpful to any questions I had. We had a wonderful time and I definitely recommend this house.

Dianna was so helpful and great with communication. The check in process was easy, and there were Plenty of linens for all 7 of us. It is an older house, but charming and clean. We really enjoyed the fire pit and being so close to the lake. There are many wineries nearby. Definitely recommend!

Great Location Between Fun Vacation Towns! We went with a group of women. It was a great set up for us. There was plenty of parking for our three cars (and room for more). The kitchen was very well stocked! There were plenty of extras (shampoo, dish soap etc). They recently bought a water cooler, which was much appreciated. All directions were very clear, and communication was great. We agree, that after ten girls' weekends, this was one of the best places we've stayed.

The property and house were beautiful. We only stayed for one night, but it was well worth it! The host was easy to communicate with. However, we were charged for damage to the couch, which we did not do, so I would advise one to take pictures once you arrive to ensure you are not charged for damages after your trip.

House was clean. Plenty of blankets, pillows, towels, board games, etc. Bring your own trash bags though. House is just across the lake...you can peek part of it from the porch. I highly recommend this place.

Family fun!
The house is very cute and cozy. The best feature is that it is right across the street from a free beach, easy to walk to with the whole family. The beds were very comfortable and the bunk room is good for kids or extended family to visit and stay. We really enjoyed the location, close to St. Joseph and also South Haven and towns further north. I highly reccommend this property and the owner.

Comfortable and convenient to the beach!
The blue shutter house was cozy and comfortable, and right across from Hagar State Park, we couldn't ask for a more convenient location. Dianna was a very responsive host and answered all of our questions promptly and with care. There are a ton of towels for guest use, and the kitchen has everything your need to cook at home. Cute house and great host. We would definitely stay there again.

We are so sorry you did not have a 5 star stay. The stairs have 1 step than a huge 10 foot long walking deck, than another 2 steps and another 10 foot walking deck with benches to sit at along the way. So I’m shocked at the description as steep. But I’ll make sure to attend the next meeting of the county and see if “I “ can change that. LOL Dianna

Perfect House for a Family with Young Kiddos!
We had a wonderful vacation at the Blue Shutter House! The location was perfect for our young children (2 & 4). It is walking distance to a nice playground and the beach! The layout is nice and the house is comfortable - beds too! We loved the screened in porch and new beautiful deck on the front. We would definitely come back. Dianna is very responsive and helpful. Dianna was a great host- super easy to communicate with and always answered questions promptly. The location is on a main road so there is some noise, nothing too crazy but it was loud at times when enjoying a fire. She provides basic toiletries and a water cooler which was nice! TVs in all the rooms. The beach across the street is small and private- we went one day but definitely recommend going to St Joseph beach about 10-15 mins away. Loved all the shops and Ryebelles over in the shopping district. Tons of options. For groceries I recommend going to Meijer in South Haven. The new porch she added to the front of the house was great during the evening and when it rained the screened porch was perfect for us to play all the board games she has available! Great little weekend family trip!

We are SO sorry you didn’t have a 5 star stay! Although on a Main Street please note our home is on a hill with a HUGE BURM that poses absolutely NOT A CHANCE for anyone to be in any danger what SO EVER!! Along with our property is 12 lots large and there is a HUGE side and back yard for all the family fun. I guess when a car drives by you can hear it if it has a loud muffler but once again the house and yard are so far from the road never gave it thought with our 4 children. We also hope you enjoyed your early check in that of course we did not charge you for. Dianna

We had a wonderful experience at this house. Our group had a total of 4 adults and 3 kids ranging from 2-7 years old. The house was clean and comfortable. It had plenty of towels and the kitchen was well stocked. The beach is across the street, since we had small kids we drove to the beach but it is walking distance away. We would stay here again!

We rented this house from Sunday-Friday in June. The great things: -across the street from beach access and a big playground -big deck -lots of seating -games supplied The not so great things: -well water. There is a 5 gallon water tub there for drinking/cooking with but when it emptied i was able to use one of the spares in the basement but they are not new waters- they just refilled the water from somewhere else and placed it in the basement for storage - a new water jug would have been nice -also during our stay we had to work around well maintenance crews that came- we had to park at the bottom of the driveway which was ok until we had to load up our bags in the rain to leave - the loft is just a closet with a bed in it. Thankfully an adult didn’t have to sleep in there as it would not have been easy- the wall was slanted so it’s basically a half closet- my 13yo couldn’t stand in it -i did have to rewash all the dishes as there was black residue on the plates that were in the cupboards Overall we had a great trip, the location is perfect, the house is old but it worked for us. Wished we had city water as that was very rough for brushing teeth, showering and cooking.

Dear Maria, We are so sorry you did not have a 5 star stay. I'm sure the fact that we had to charge your deposit for the destroyed patio furniture soured your review. We did not how ever charge you for, candy left all over the entire home, ground into the carpet so bad we had to shampoo it. Suckers stuck to furniture and carpet, smeared food and marshmellow on my beautiful new sectional couch. Watermelon rinds, carrots, grapes garbage and paperplates left all over our brand new deck and strewn all over the entire yard. We offered for you to cancel your stay with a 100% refund due to the fact 2 weeks prior we had to have a new well drilled. You CAN NOT run a VRBO with NO water. You could have drank or cooked with the water it was safe, we just didn't like the taste so, we went and bought a brand new water machine prior to your arrival. We also installed a water sofener witch is all you can do when you are on a well. We also have a water company deliver the water so when you said we fill, that was a miss representation. We make it very clear on the website that we have 3 bedroom that sleep 10. Our hidden loft sleeping area is just our bonus room, and yes the kids love it. In our years of renting our home, we have had many, many people stay with us but, we have never had anyone leave our home in such disarray and filthy. I realize a mother on vacation shouldn't have to do much but the condition of our home was beyond simply wanted to relax it was abuse of our property. So i was very generous at only charging you for the patio furniture and not all the extra shampooing or carpets and furniture not to mention extra clean up. Great spot!
We had a great time staying here. Perfect location - just a quick drive across the street (it’s a fairly busy road) to beach access, and 15 minutes from both St. Joseph’s and South Haven. Dollar General was about 3 minutes away for anything we needed. The house was nice. The kitchen is bigger than it looks in the pictures. I think the deck out front is new and was really nice to use in the evening for relaxing and to dry our towels and suits from the beach. There were beach chairs at the house for our use as well, which was nice. Overall, we had a great girls trip!!

Beautiful property walking distance to Lake Michigan!
This place was wonderful. There had been some issue with the well right before our stay, but the owner supplied us with plenty of drinking water so we had no problem. The yard is huge and there was so much space to hang out outside. Plus the brand new deck was beautiful! All the beds were very comfortable and we had plenty of space for our group of 10. Would definitely recommend this house to anyone!

Family Girls Trip 2021
We rented the Blue Shutter House for 10 ladies in our family to take a long weekend girls trip. The location is wonderful, situated between great shopping, restaurants, and beach access. Our host were great to work with both leading up to and during our stay!
