Tres agreable sejour
Tres bien bon petit déjeuner sur la riviere les hotelieres tres gentilles. Il ne manque rien. Le soir diner chez Grunter à 100 m du guest house , conseillé par leurs soins Tout pres de l entree sud d Addo Elephant. Un seul regrer nous n avions pas reserver à l avance aupres de l hotel un safari. Resultat il a fallu se debrouiller pour rejoindre l entrre nord car l hiver ( mai) les drivers ne sont pas au sud du parc . Moralité pensez à demander à l avance un safari avec l hotel .. mais nous avons quand même vu des lions

Die Gastgeber sind sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit, man fühlt wirklich willkommen. Die Lage am Fluß ist toll, man kann draußen mit Blick aufs Wasser frühstücken.

Zwei Traumtage am Addo-Park
Es warenwundervolleTage bei herausragenden Gastgebern. TolleTipsfür unseren Aufenthalt. Lage perfekt zum Südtor de Addo. Die Lodge selbst liegt super über dem Sunday River mit morgendlichem Frühstück auf der Terrasse mit Blick auf den Fluss. Wir würden immer wieder hierhin zurückkommen. Beste Grüße an Edda und Derek !

River lodge stay for Safari
Stayed for 2 nights in eagle fish room, overlooking the Sundays river. Had a fabulous time, Etta, Carol, Leona and Derek are so friendly, helpful and laid back. Wonderful character property and great base for Addo park and game reserves. Booked all through the lodge. Lovely little pub up the road, grunters, withIn 5 minutes from lodge for an evening meal. Definitely recommend the boat trip up the river and visit the Dunes, we went with Beau (and His wife Ruth) and had the most fabulous morning. The dunes are a must and Beau is so Knowledgeable. You can also take a dip in the river which is like a lido. Dungbeetle lodge is very homely and welcoming. Definitely visit again in the future.

Lovely property in a beautiful setting. We only had one night but would recommend 2 nights to benefit from all the activities available - Addo, Sundays River trip, canoeing, etc. And don't be put off by appearances of the local pub, Grunters - great food and fantastic value

Nice room. Feel very African :) We got free drinks when checked in. Breakfast is great. This place is really close to Addo park and they do guided tours there. Very recommanded. Beautiful nature all around and a river right next to the room.

Die Pension wird sehr liebevoll geführt: das Frühstück mit Blick auf den Fluss und die Dünen ist fantastisch gewesen. Das Personal war reizend, es gibt selbstgebackenes Brot und etwa 6 eigene Marmeladen-Kreationen sowie frisches Obst (teils sogar aus dem Garten) sowie das klassische English Breakfast mit Eierspeisen. Etta und ihr Mann sind freundliche Gastgeber und auch ein später Check-in war abweichend von den publizierten Angaben nach kurzem E-Mail-Austausch überhaupt kein Problem. Die Einrichtung der Pension wie auch des Zimmers ist originell, aber eine Geschmacksfrage und würde ich nicht gerade als modern bezeichnen. Alles war jedoch penibel sauber, sodass das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis am Ende stimmt. In den Nationalpark sind es mit dem Auto gerade mal 5 Minuten; außerdem gibt es in Colchester eine einfache Gaststätte sowie einen Spar-Supermarkt samt Tankstelle.

A great place to stay on the outskirts of Addo overlooking Sunday’s River. Canoeing and sand dune sledding for the kids and super friendly relaxed staff. We will be back !

Great base from Addo Elephant Reserve South Gate
Wonderful river view from the breakfast deck, with vervet monkeys playing on the shore. Good cooked breakfast. Lion Suite comfortable. Accommodating about letting us check in early. No staff on-site after hours. No dinner option but a couple of minutes from Grunters Pub & Restaurant which has the best steaks and great host Patrick.

Schöne Unterkunft am River, der auch zum baden einlädt. Das Frühstück gibts auf der Terrasse mit tollem Blick auf River und Dünen. Man wird super herzlich Empfangen. Es gibt 2 Restaurants, eines ist 5 Minuten zu Fuß zu erreichen, das andere 2,5km an der Tankstelle und Spar.

Base for exploring Addo Elephant National Park
Excellent accommodation for exploring the park, only short drive to southern gate. I stayed in the Elephant Room and found it quite comfortable with all the essentials. Brekkie was fantastic, the freshly baked bread a real treat. Host was very helpful providing good advice on the limited restaurants in the area. The pub was it and it was good. Nice deck looking out on the river.

Ottima sistemazione
Si tratta di una location veramente carina situata sulla sponda di un fiume, a due passi dal meraviglioso Addo National Park nonchè alle sconfinate e poco note dune di sabbia che si affacciano sull'oceano. Le camere sono grandi e arredate in tipico stile africano. Il lodge nel suo complesso è decisamente carino, tranquillo e romantico. La colazione, prettamente all'inglese, viene servita all'aperto. Il personale è gentile e solerte. Se poi avete la fortuna (che noi purtroppo non abbiamo avuto), di soggiornare in una camera vista fiume allora vi innamorerete e non vorrete più andar via .

Great place to stay if you plan to visit Addo Elephant Park.. Owners are very friendly and helpful. Only complaint is that the breakfast is very slow and ours wasn't cooked as we like it. For added security a room safe with a digital lock would be good

... in a beautiful environment, located just a few minutes from the south gate of the Addo NP and at a beautiful river banks. Cozy rooms and yummy breakfast. They offer day-tours to the Addo NP (which we however did not do). However, we did a wonderful sunset cruise with a guy called Beau on his little boat which was a highlight of our SA trip. He showed us amazing sand dunes and provided a lot of information on the region and the local flora and fauna.

Sanddünen und Addo Nationalpark
Das Hotel liegt direkt am Fluss, direkt gegenüber den Dünen. Zum Addo-Südeingang Mathyolweni mit dem Auto gerade mal 5 Minuten! Etta ist ein unkomplizierte Gastgeberin und das Personal ist sehr freundlich. Klasse Frühstück auf der Terrasse mit allem, was das Herz begehrt (besonders die Vielzahl der selbstgemachten Marmeladen) dem noch warmen Brot und der versch. Eierspeisen. Das Grunters Pub & Grub, nur 2 Minuten fußläufig, kann man empfehlen (etwas rustikal aber gutes Essen). Am zweiten Abend waren wir in der Parkview Lodge (Eingang Mathyolweni) Essen war sehr lecker und wunderschön präsentiert. Etta hatte uns einen Tisch reserviert. Ein privater Boat Trip mit Beau - ein sehr sympathisch ortskundiger Mann, der einen mit seinem Boot zu den größten Sanddünen Südafrikas bringt, sowie auf dem Sunday River die einzigartige Vogelwelt erklärt. Bei Etta nach Beau fragen (eine wunderbare Erfahrung)

Hotel mit Flußblick
Wir hatten ein großes gepflegtes Zimmer und zwar die Fish Eagle Suite mit Balkon zum Fluß, 2 Sessel standen vorm Fenster. Es gab ein offenes Bad mit Badewanne, leider keine separate Dusche. Das Zimmer hatte ein Queenbett mit einer gemeinsamen Decke. Das Frühstück hat uns nicht zugesagt. Es gab selbstgebackenes Riesentoastbrot, aber keinen Toaster dafür. Man wusste nicht, wie man das essen soll. Es gab zwar Obst, aber keinen vorbereiteten Obstsalat. Man sitzt sehr beengt an großen Gemeinschaftstischen.

Ao acordar se pode sentir o cheirinho de pão assando... delicia! Tudo que é servido no café da manhã é feito na hora. A internet no quarto não funciona muito bem, como na maioria dos outros locais que ficamos.

Tell Everyone You Know! We Have!
If you like homely places with a uniquely decorated style, base yourself here for a couple of nights while exploring Addo. 5 minutes from Mathyolweni gate entrance to Addo and right on the Sunday's River with the Alexandria Dunefield between you and the ocean, there is so much more to do than just safari. Leona was the a most welcoming host and couldn't do enough to help. It was my partner's birthday and she even prepared a little surprise at breakfast. We stayed in the lovely Elephant Suite but had a sneaky peek in all the rooms and was wowed by them all! The Fish Eagle Suite is definitely for a special occasion. The terrace area overlooking the river is lovely (fab sunrise spot for the early risers) and the breakfast plentiful and cooked with care (I highly recommend the omelettes!). We also did a full day Addo tour through them with Mike who managed Addo for many years and the expertise and knowledge made it an amazing experience. You really can't learn as much as someone like him knows by driving yourself though the massive park. Still smiling about the epic birthday trip and would stay again next week if we could!

Muito bom!
O hotel fica localizado num vilarejo chamado Canonvile, a cerca de 4 km da entrada do sul do Addo Elephant Park, sendo uma boa opção para quem pretende visitar o local. Boas instalações e com varanda bastante agragradável voltada parao rio onde eh feito o café da manhã, que é o único problema do hotel, tendo em vista que eh servido após o pedido, como aconteceu em praticamente todos nos quais nos hospedamos na África do Sul, mas levava quase uma hora para chegar a mesa. Equipe gentil e fomos recebidos com cerveja na varanda.

Nice little lodge right on the river.
Nice view on the river. ADDO Parkentrance just 5 min away. Good breakfast on the terrace overlooking the river. Safe Parking. Would stay there again.

Dungbeetle River Lodge provides a very comfortable home-from home very conveniently located next to Addo Elephant Park. Hosts Derek & Etta are experts on the park and can provide safaris if you don’t want to drive yourself. Having just completed a 6 day safari in Kruger, we were prepared to give Addo a miss, but we were persuaded into going – just as well as we had a fantastic time. The lodge and rooms are beautifully furnished and you won’t find a better breakfast in a more stunning setting than on their balcony overlooking the Sundays River. Their attention to detail is amazing. We were recommended to dine at the Grunters Pub just down the road. Don’t be put off, as the lack of kerb appeal is far outweighed by the delicious food and friendly service by the host. What with canoeing, boating, swimming and fishing from their own jetty, we wish we had planned to stay longer. A visit to the river mouth with its vast sand dunes is also a must.

Lodge nett eingerichtet, Zimmer ausreichend groß,gutes Frühstück, nettes Personal, Lage zum Addo perfekt! Allerdings ist die Umgebung nicht besonders ansprechend, kaum Restaurants oder Supermärkte in der Gegend.

Thank you for the time you have taken to write a comment. We do understand that the lack of restaurants and supermarkets could be a negative for some people. However, to have a National Park like Addo within 5 minutes, a river flowing at the foot of the lodge and all the other add on's you get here, would not have been possible in a built up city environment : Port Elizabeth is only 1/2 hour away and offers fine dining and culture every evening. Etta
