Flatters to deceive
Firstly, its a beautiful chalet with stunning views South to Mt Blanc. Its classic Savoie style, clean and comfortable.
There is a double bedroom, 4 x bunk room, bathroom and toilet on ground floor. Open plan living room/diner, kitchen, double/twin bedroom, bathroom and toilet on first floor and another double/twin on second floor.
The living room and 1st floor bedroom have access to a large balcony. The kitchen has oven, hob, microwave, kettle, toaster, coffee machine, fridge and dishwasher. Theres plenty of cutlery, crockery etc as well as salt/pepper/herbs and tea (presumably left by previous guests).
You can walk from the garden across the nursery slope to the Brevant lift maybe 150m away. The centre of town is about 12-15 mins walk downhill with a fairly steep uphill climb back. You can actually cut this shorter by walking along side of nursery slope.
So far so good. And here is where the problem starts. You have to pick up keys from agent in place with no parking. Then you find the chalet and discover the neighbour has blocked the end of the driveway with his/her car. The drive itself was snow covered and icy so you cant actually drive from road to chalet. Parking over the road was private, so this is a major issue.
We returned to speak to agent who then informed us "there is no winter parking and we remove that from the description". We're pretty sure that when we booked in April/May it stated parking. In a subsequent text ms from agent they said they'd make a "commercial consideration". Assume this meant some kind of refund that we've at point of writing not received. So basically if you have a car in winter, and want to use it, then this is probably not for you. Its either a paid for car park at the bottom of the hill or a lengthy drive around looking for one of the limited free spaces in town. We managed to find one sometimes about 600m down the hill. Agent also gave us bus passes but the busses were always full to the point some drivers didnt even stop.
Other minor issues also exist. On their own maybe not worth a massive moan but still worth noting. Especially with the parking issue.
No toilet rolls or bin bags on arrival. I've never booked chalet that didnt have a courtesy single toilet roll in each toilet or bin bag in each bin. Its possible this is issue with agent or cleaner rather than specified by owner. You'd think when spending nearly 2300 eur they could provide a few basics!
Whilst kitchen had plenty of cutlery there was no cheese grater or garlic press and the "sharp" kitchen knives were blunt. There were also no large plates with the biggest being "medium" and about the size found in cheap "all inclusive " hotels to stop people eating too much!
Finally, the ground floor double bedroom had zero storage. Theres a large built in double wardrobe that was locked with a padlock. No bedside cabinets with drawers and no chest of drawers. Youd need to pile clothes on a small table and chairs provided. Appreciate owners may want to keep personal storage but surely not at expense of paying guests comfort?
Whilst the chalet has much going for it, theres just too much (for the price) against it, primarily lack of parking. We wouldnt personally stay here again. But if youre happy to ski just locally and dont mind walking shopping up hill then its nice.
