  • Welcome to Daphne House, a beautiful late Victorian terrace home where history, creativity and comfort come together to create a truly unique Brighton stay. Once the home of Sussex writer, artist and environmentalist Daphne Wall (1932-2022), this charming two-bedroom property offers guests the opportunity to stay in a home filled with character, stories and artistic heritage. Sleeping up to 6 guests, Daphne House retains its original Victorian charm while offering a warm and welcoming atmosphere throughout. Guests can admire Daphne's own oil paintings displayed around the home and browse her personal collection of books, adding a special sense of history and personality to every stay. The property features a cosy living room, a separate dining room with a library where guests are invited to relax and enjoy the collection during their stay, and a bright south-facing garden, perfect for enjoying a quiet morning coffee or unwinding after a day exploring the city.

    KITCHEN / LIVING AREA
    Flooded with natural light, the bright and welcoming living space creates the perfect spot to relax and unwind during your stay. The fully equipped kitchen includes a Bosch washing machine, microwave, dishwasher, oven, kettle, plus plenty of cookware, glassware, crockery and cutlery so you can easily prepare everything from slow breakfasts to evening meals together. Complimentary tea and coffee, along with salt and pepper, are also provided for guests to enjoy, so please help yourself. The sociable living area features comfortable seating, a Smart TV and a double sofa bed (not made up, so guests can enjoy the space), making it a great space for relaxing with a movie, enjoying a few drinks or catching up after a day exploring Brighton.

    Located close to Preston Park, Brighton’s largest and oldest public park, this area offers the perfect balance of city living and green open space. Spanning 63 acres, the park features a velodrome, tennis courts, gardens, cafés and hosts popular events throughout the year. With Preston Park station nearby, it’s a well-connected and vibrant part of Brighton. The neighbourhood is known for its beautiful Victorian homes, leafy streets and relaxed atmosphere, while nearby Preston Park provides expansive green open space, tennis courts, cafés and walking routes. Brighton Station and the city centre are within easy reach, making it simple to explore Brighton’s famous seafront, independent shops, restaurants and cultural attractions.

    Guests can spend the day exploring The Lanes, Brighton Palace Pier, North Laine and the Royal Pavilion before returning to the calm and comfort of this historic literary home.

    THE STOREY BEHIND DAPHNE HOUSE
    This charming property was owned by the Sussex writer and artist Daphne Wall (1932-2022), and her book collection and paintings remain part of the house. Daphne Wall’s life was shaped by creativity, travel and resilience. Born in Folkestone in 1932 and raised partly in France before the Second World War, her writing reflected memory, identity, Sussex landscapes and seaside life. Her stories and experiences - from childhood summers on the Kent coast to wartime journeys back to England - helped shape the atmosphere that still lives within this home today.

    Guests staying at Daphne House become part of a space deeply connected to Sussex creativity, literature and history.

    A maximum of 1 dog is allowed unless prior permission has been granted.
    This accomodation entrance is on the ground floor, and there are no steps to the main entrance; however, there are stairs within the property that take you up to the second level.

    Our Guest Promise
    We want you to arrive at a spotless home. If anything has been missed with the cleaning, please let us know straight away, and we will put it right as a priority. If we are unable to resolve it on the same business day, we will offer to move you to another property or refund you for the affected time!

    Check-In
    We’ll send your check-in instructions via email and SMS at 3 pm on your arrival day for check-in from 4 pm, once your damage deposit/waiver has been paid.

    Damage Deposit
    We work closely with our property owners to protect their homes and take damage deposits for all bookings. The day before check-in (or on the same day, if applicable), you’ll receive a 3D Secure link to select your preferred damage deposit option. The full deposit is simply pre-authorised on your card and released within 7 days of check-out if no breakages or damages are reported. Guests who prefer not to do a fully refundable damage deposit have the option of a one-off non-refundable damage waiver at a much lower cost.

    Smoking
    To keep our properties fresh and clean for all guests, smoking of any kind, leaving traces behind suggesting smoking of any kind, or vaping (including e-cigarettes), is not allowed indoors. Please smoke on the street or patio area, if available.

    Noise
    To help keep things peaceful for our neighbours, we kindly ask that noise be kept to a minimum between 10 pm and 8 am. We want you to have a great time. A little consideration goes a long way to making sure everyone can enjoy their evenings (and get a good night’s sleep!)

    Not all properties can host hen, stag, or similar group celebrations. If you’re planning one, just drop us a message, and we’ll happily guide you to a property that can accommodate your group.

    Please note that call-outs due to excessive noise or parties may incur a fee.

    Check-Out
    Check-out is by 11 am. Unauthorised late departures may incur a £50 per hour fee.
    Before You Leave and as a consideration to future guests, please:
    Wash up the used dishes.
    Bag rubbish and use the correct recycling bins.
    Return keys to the key safe
    Switch off the lights.
    Close all windows.
    Turn down the heating.
    These steps help us prepare for the next guests and save energy; every little bit counts.

    Age Policy
    The lead guest must be 21 or over. We cannot accept bookings where the majority of guests are under this age. If unsure, please contact us before booking.

    A Quick Note on Deposits and Property Care
    If any of the above guidelines aren’t followed, we may need to make deductions from your deposit to cover additional cleaning or damages. We hope that’s never necessary!
