I stayed here probably 30 years ago and it was a favourite when visiting the area. Lovely to see it has retained its charm and atmosphere. Old world hotel with modern updates. Lovely.

We will book again.
Lovely hotel, really clean & wonderful breakfasts. I would have given 5 stars if we had not have been in a room overlooking the rear lane, which was used by noisy pedestrians late at night, & dustbin lorry early morning. Free pass to The Barnstaple Hotel pool really appreciated, thank you.

Excellent stay. Clean, warm, welcoming. Excellent food in the restaurant didn’t use the bistro. The Hotel is very well run

The staff were very polite and helpful. The room suited my solo needs. The internet access was good. Parking across the road was safe and easily accessible. The room was cleaned very well during my 2 night stay. I would book again.

Great hotel and room was good. The shower was fantastic. I wasn’t there long as visiting family & friends. But looks good and recommend.

Nice hotel but why have delivery lorries so early???? People go to hotels to SLEEP and do not want crashing around to rouse them from their slumber.

Great staff, nothing too much trouble
The staff at the Imperial were so accommodating from the booking to the stay. We booked in advance but had to change the reservation due to my dog being unwell and I needed to bring him with me for the night. The staff switched us to a pet friendly room with no issues. The room had a blanket and water bowl for my dog which was a lovely touch, along with information on pet friendly beaches in the area. The staff checked on us during our stay to see if everything was to our liking. I also needed to park near to the room to carry my dog as he’s heavy and they allowed me to park in a space near the accommodation block. Nothing was too much trouble. The staff in the bar were very friendly and also at reception. The hotel is well situated with great views (although not from our particular room but I wasn’t bothered for one night given we had switched rooms at late notice). The room was clean with great amenities including tea, coffee, biscuits, water, all complimentary. As well as the pet friendly touches. The only negative I would say was the shower curtain around the bath. A screen would have been better as it didn’t go all the way round the bath so let quite a lot of water out into the floor, and also swung and stuck to you whilst showering. We had to mop the floor with the towels once finished. We didn’t eat at the hotel so I couldn’t comment on the food but the menu looked really nice. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Fornemt.
Meget fint hotel, lidt for fornemt til vores smag. Tjenere med slips og jakkesæt og med distance til gæsterne. Gourmet Restaurant og Bistro, men selv i baren/bistro følte vi det lidt for fornemt til vores smag. En god oplevelse men ikke det vi foretrækker når vi rejser. Værelse og hotellet som helhed lever op til billederne på siden, men vi havde nok forkert opfattet at det var et badehotel med strand i nærheden, men det er ikke hotellets skyld.

We were very happy with the hotel. Staff were excellent. Friendly, obliging and made you feel you were welcome. Hotel room was clean, well furnished as were the general areas including the bar and the restaurant.

Our stay here was excellent. We were given a free upgrade to a deluxe river view room and it was so thoughtfully furnished with lots of little extras The staff, particularly Louise (I think) were extremely friendly and helpful and the hotel was in a great position

Stay in Barnstaple
We were totally surprised by the level of service, attention to making us feel comfortable and the overall experience of the hotel. There was a fruit bowl and chocolates in the room for our arrival. The restaurant was just outstanding, the service was the best we have ever had in this country. The whole experience was of old school glamour and we couldn't fault it. Definitely would go back and use it as a base.
