Cozy Dog Friendly House with Deck, Firepit & Fast WiFi in Heart of Bar Harbor

Nestled among centuries old pines in the heart of Bar Harbor, Devilstone Cottage Estate’s Guest House offers a unique retreat within easy reach of Acadia National Park. Available year-round, this home is built on the site of the carriage house for one of the original mansions dating back to the town's emergence as a vacation spot in the 1800's when the Vanderbilts and other notable magnates first started visiting. Boasting a private deck and outdoor seating with a firepit, this two-story Cape Cod style home connects to the Shore Path making for an easy stroll to restaurants and shopping in town.

The interior features a living room with a vaulted ceiling that opens to the second story. A master bedroom with a king bed and den with sofa bed are on the ground floor while two more bedrooms are upstairs. The ground floor bedroom features an en suite bath with a large soaking tub and stall shower. A second, full bath is shared between the den and the rest of the household. The upstairs master bedroom also features an en suite bath. A fourth, full bathroom is also located upstairs.

The kitchen is fully stocked for home cooking and meals that can be enjoyed either at the six-seater dining tables inside or out on the deck. The living room offers a cozy place to unwind and gather for family movie nights on the large, smart TV.

In the evening, gather around the firepit, listen to the pine trees sway in the breeze and watch as the stars come out.

This home is available for stays up to 14 nights maximum. A stay 15 nights and over requires prior written consent from the Host. To use Instant Booking (when activated), guest must have and maintain positive reviews and provide ID to the Host at the time of booking. In addition, ID and email address for all adults staying at the property must be uploaded within 24 hours of the reservation.

Please note: There is a basement apartment for the Estate staff with separate parking and a private entrance. This may be occupied during your stay.

* Please also note that The Shore Path might be temporarily closed for repairs. Guests of the Main House are free to enjoy the lawn and the views, but we ask that you do not walk along the path where signs are posted.

  • The Criterion in downtown Bar Harbor, Maine, does not look very much from the exterior, but it is a glorious, well-preserved Art Deco style theatre. Opening in 1932, it has served the town of Bar Harbor as a movie palace ever since, accomodating such prominent families as the Rockefellers on their vacations to nearby Mount Desert Island. Kept in fantastic condition over the years, the theatre still has most of its original interior: seats, curtains, and even the original lighting board for stage performances. Could not recommend this higher. Absolutely beautiful location, so convenient for downtown, and also a very short walk to the beach. Beautiful home, and very welcoming host. Exactly as advertised, and would love to stay again given the opportunity. We absolutely were thrilled to take advantage of the fire pit one evening, wonderful for a cold November weekend!

This home was the perfect location in Bar Harbor. We could walk along the water and walk into town. The rooms are spacious and kitchen was well equipped. Fire pit was a great feature for a chilly autumn afternoon.

Excellent location. The house itself is not as advertised however. '70s style construction, doors are hollow, furnishings older. Floor was vacuumed but apparently not frequently washed. Our socked or bare feet got filthy. The heat was an issue, when turned on there was very loud noise coming from a heater around the pipes in the kitchen sink which was persistent until the chosen heat level was reached. It was audible all over the house even with bedroom doors closed. I was told this was " normal for Maine" to keep the pipes from freezing and "nobody had ever mentionned it". It is not, I live in Maine. The kitchen had a full array of dishware but in terms of cooking there was no organization to the implements and the drawers were a chaotic mess that appeared to never have been organized or cleaned up. One of the cupboard doors fell to pieces when my husband opened it. We had to buy a can opener! The muffin pan we took out to make popovers was filled with rust. The stairs creaked. Not at all what we expected from the photos and description. And given the facilities seemed grossly overpriced. Enjoyed our time in the park and the location in terms of walking in town.

The location of this charming guest house could not be better! Such a short walk to the shore path which is one of the most beautiful walks in the world! And it was amazing how peaceful and quiet it was while sitting in the nice spacious back yard or by the fire pit or on the deck. It felt like you were so far from town but in fact the town was just a short walk away. Amazing how much privacy we had while being such a short walk from town. And of course our dog enjoyed the yard and house as well. The house is so comfortable too. We had a pretty hot week in August but the air units kept the house very cool. And the spacious open floor plan downstairs provided a great venue for everyone to interact together in the mornings or anytime throughout the stay. Plenty of room for everyone and of course we always had the option to use the deck or sit by the firepit! The bedrooms were very comfortable too. We all slept very well! Our one child slept on the couch bed in the family room and he loved it.And everything worked very well from the washer and dryers to the stove and outside grill and dishwasher and coffee machine and keruig. Its an older house but that just adds to the charm. It was the perfect setting for the 7 of us and our dog to enjoy an amazing vacation in one of the most beautiful areas.We most definitely want to stay here again! I actually am not sure I would want to stay anywhere else!

Had a great time at the Guest Cottage. It was well appointed with amenities as described in the listing and was clean and exactly as the pictures showed. It is a short walk to Main Street shops and restaurants and a short drive to Acadia hiking trails. We enjoyed it very much!

Grandma comfort - prime location

This house was located in a perfect location from everythign you would want when visting Bar Harbor. Restaurants, shops, the park and so much more. It is crazy clean, beds are comfy and showers are hot with great pressure. While it isn't the most updated inside, it gives you the feel of cozy comfort of grandma's house, and honestly, the world needs more of that! The property manager was amazing, responsive and helpful. We loved the area so much and will come back and stay here again! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Fabulous Acadia trip

Bar Harbor Adventure

We picked this house for the location and it did not disappoint! Within walking distance to everything you need in Bar Harbor (restaurants, shopping, grocery store). We were even able to walk to Bar Harbor bike shop and rent e-bikes to ride into the park. Avoiding car traffic in the park was a big plus! Next time we come we would love to stay at the big house (Devilstone Cottage) which has spectacular grounds and is right on the water.
