50 km south of Beirut and 8 km southeast of Sidon on a hill 3 km inland from the Mediterranean. Maghdouché's most famous landmark is the tower of Our Lady of Mantara, a shrine built in 1963 above the cave that is believed to have been the resting place of the Virgin Mary as she waited for Jesus while he preached in Sidon. The village is also famous for its orange-blossom water. It is an ideal base for exploring nearby areas such as Sidon with its souks, Crusaders Sea Castle and Soap Museum, the UNESCO Heritage Site of Tyre and its ancient Roman hippodrome, Jezzine, known for its production of handmade, traditional cutlery with decorative inlays, the town of Deir el Qamar, which dates back to the period of the Crusades, Beiteddine Palace, the Shouf cedar reserve, to mention just a few.
