Guide de voyage: Aso 2026

Aso : idées de séjour, infos pratiques et culturelles

Kusasenri (Kusasenri Plateau, è‰ćƒé‡Œă‚±æ”œ) is one of the most iconic sceneries in Kumamoto Prefecture. It is a vast grassland plateau with grazing cows and horses, as well as a commanding view of Mt. Eboshi (in the background) and the currently active Mt. Naka (far left of photo, with dark billowing smoke). Pampas grass have already covered most of the area signaling the coming of autumn.

Mount Aso (é˜żè˜‡ć±±, Asosan) is an active volcano in the center of Kyushu which most recently erupted in October 2016 but has since calmed down again. Aso's ancient caldera ranks among the world's largest, with a diameter of up to 25 kilometers and a circumference of over 100 kilometers. In the center of the caldera stand the mountain's active volcanic peaks, including Mount Nakadake, shown in this photo.

Due to increased volcanic activity at the time of our visit, a no-entry zone was currently maintained and resulted in the closure of the ropeway, road and hiking trails to the crater. Still, from a distance, we were able to witness this rare display of nature's power.
